Shiv Sena ad claims Shinde more preferred as Maharashtra CM over Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Tuesday placed a full-page advertisement in many newspapers titled Modi for India, Shinde for Maharashtra, quoting a survey where Shinde is shown as more preferred for the top post than BJP's Devendra Fadnavis. The ad prompted Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut to call the party Modi-Shah's Shiv Sena. The advertisement carries Sena's bow-and-arrow symbol and images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Shinde. It has no image or photo of Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray, a noticeable departure going by its earlier publicity materials. For the chief minister's position, 26.1 per cent of the people in Maharashtra desire Eknath Shinde and 23.2 per cent of the people wish to see Devendra Fadnavis as the next chief minister, reads the advertisement. Thus, it is undeniable proof that 49.3 per cent of the people in Maharashtra wish to see a strong alliance between BJP and Shiv Sena for their state's leadership, it said.

Fadnavis falsely claiming that warkaris weren't lathi-charged in Pune: Cong

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Monday alleged home minister Devendra Fadnavis was falsely claiming that warkaris- devotees of Lord Vitthal- were not lathi-charged by police in Pune district a day before. "Video clips of the lathi-charge are self-explanatory. What is Fadnavis trying to achieve by making a false claim that no such incident had taken place? The comments of Fadnavis regarding this incident are irresponsible and insensitive, he said. According to police, an argument broke out on Sunday between warkaris and police during a procession at Alandi town when devotees were scrambling to gain entry into Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Samadhi Mandir. Fadnavis had denied reports of lathi-charge and maintained that it was a minor scuffle. Patole said Fadnavis asking political parties not to instigate people over the incident is like "a thief lecturing the police". "If he cannot handle the home department, why is he blaming the warkari community for it?" the Congress lead

Amid several incidents of communal clashes in parts of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Sunday said his government will not allow anyone in the state to take law into their hands. It is the responsibility of our government to maintain law and order. The opposition reiterates only one thing... They talk about Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb, they take out their photos, banners. We will not allow this in Maharashtra. This is the Maharashtra of Chhatrapati Shivaji...our government is working on his inspiration and ideals. So, anyone taking law into their hands will not be spared, and the government will fulfil its role in maintaining law and order, Shinde told a press conference here. The Maharashtra CM is in the Union territory for a four-day visit, during which he visited the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu. There is anti-BJP wave, country's people want change: Sharad Pawar

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday claimed there is currently an "anti-BJP" wave and people of the country want a change considering results of the recent Assembly polls in Karnataka. If this mindset of people continues, the country will witness a change in the forthcoming elections, Pawar said at a press meet here. He also claimed that small incidents in Maharashtra were being given a "religious colour", which was not a good sign. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced defeat in the recently held Assembly elections in Karnataka, where the Congress came back to power after a gap of five years. The Lok Sabha elections are due in 2024, and the Maharashtra Assembly polls are also due in the later part of next year. Pawar said, "Looking at the scenario, I think there is an anti-BJP wave going on. Considering the Karnataka election results, people are in the mood for a change. If this mentality of people continues, there will a change in the country in th

The Neral-Matheran narrow gauge 'toy train' will remain suspended between June 10 to October 15 for safety reasons, the Central Railway said on Tuesday. The train services are stopped during monsoon every year for fear of landslides or stone fall. The CR's announcement, notably, came three days after the train derailed while on the way down to Neral though no passenger suffered injuries. Shuttle services between Matheran and Aman Lodge, the station close to Dasturi point beyond which vehicles are not allowed, will remain operational during the monsoon, the CR release said. Six pairs of regular passenger services and one 'material special' service will be operated daily from Monday to Friday between Matheran and Aman Lodge stations, it added. Two additional special shuttle services will be operated on weekends. On June 3, one of the wheels of the engine derailed near Jumma Patti station, located some 95 km from Mumbai, around 5.30 pm while the train was heading to Neral from ...
