Covid-19: Mumbai Police impose Section 144, New Year celebrations banned

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases, the Mumbai Police on Thursday has imposed Section 144 in the city starting from today till January 7.As per the new COVID-19 restrictions, prohibition has been placed on New Year's celebrations, parties in any closed or open space including restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs from December 30 to January 7."The order shall come into the force, in the areas under the control of Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai from 00:00 Hrs of 30th December 2021 and will remain in force till 24:00 Hrs of 7th January 2022, unless withdrawn earlier," the order reads."Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code 1860 in addition to the penal provision under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and National Disaster Management Act 2005 and other legal provisions as applicable," said Chaitanya S, Deputy Commissioner of Police.Meanwhile, Mumbai on Wednesday reported 2,510 fresh COVID-19 cases and one death ..

Ahmedabad is the most affordable housing market among eight major cities while Mumbai is unaffordable due to high EMI to total income ratio, according to Knight Frank. According to Knight Frank's Affordability Index 2021 report released on Wednesday, Indian markets are at their decadal best in terms of housing affordability. Decline in house prices and multi-decade low home loan interest rates have helped improve housing affordability in 2021, it added. The affordability index indicates the proportion of income that a household requires, to fund the equated monthly instalment (EMI) of a housing unit in a particular city. So, the index level of 40 per cent for a city implies that on an average, households in that city need to spend 40 per cent of their income to fund the EMI of housing loan for that unit. Mumbai sees 809 new Covid cases in last 24 hrs; active tally now 4,765

Mumbai on Monday reported 809 COVID-19 cases and three deaths. taking the tally in the metropolis to 7,71,921 and the toll to 16,373, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. The day's addition was a fall from the 922 cases reported on Sunday, he pointed out. The recovery count increased to 7,48,199 after 335 people were discharged during the day, leaving Mumbai with 4,765 active cases, he said. With 43,383 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of tests in the country's financial capital went up to 1,34,92,241, BMC data showed. It also revealed that the caseload doubling time was 967 days, the recovery rate stood at 97 per cent and the growth rate of cases between December 20 to 26 was 0.07 per cent.
