With the country moving towards clean fuels, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday urged IITians to focus their research on the use of biotechnology for the production of bio-CNG, bio-LNG and green hydrogen from biomass. Green hydrogen will be used in various industries like chemicals, fertilizers, and also in the transportation sector in the future, Gadkari said, urging the young engineering man-power of the country to do research on manufacturing green hydrogen from electrolysis of sewage water and bio-digestion of organic wastes. This will also help municipalities of the country in implementing the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' along with value-addition in the form of waste to wealth, the minister said while speaking at Alankar-2022, a global leadership summit organised by Shailesh J Mehta School of Management in IIT Bombay. "We require prioritising needs-based research... research should come up with import substitute, cost-effective, pollution free, indigenous solutions. We need t

Retail portion of NHAI InvIT to rise going ahead, says Nitin Gadkari

Enthused by the overwhelming retail investor response to the recent InvIT from NHAI, wherein NCDs worth Rs 1,430 crore were issued, Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said the retail portion will go up in new such fund-raising ahead. The minister was addressing a gathering at BSE after listing the second tranche of the NHAI Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) and NCD, which earlier this month raised Rs 1,430 crore and the issue was oversubscribed nearly seven times. As much as 25 per cent of the issue was reserved for retail investors, but NHAI had not said how many times the retail portion was oversubscribed instead saying it had an overwhelming response. Cannot make cycle tracks in Mumbai due to space constraints, says Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said it is difficult to make cycle tracks in the financial capital due to space constraints, which make it impossible to widen roads. Gadkari, who handles the road transport portfolio, underlined that it is important to encourage the sustainable and healthy habit of cycling. We can make dedicated tracks in tier-II and tier-III cities, he added. "Actually, I am supporting your idea (of cycle tracks). But my practical problem is that in the city area, it is very difficult to increase the width of the road. In Mumbai, we cannot make cycle tracks," Gadkari said during an interactive meeting with institutional investors organised by Philip Capital here on Monday evening. Without elaborating on it, the minister said there are also "encroachments and political problems" in Mumbai, which make the job of creating dedicated cycle tracks difficult. The remarks from the minister come amid reports of the most ambitious 40-km cycle track project in Mumbai not ta

Centre eyeing state highways with high traffic for lane expansion: Gadkari

The Centre is mulling a scheme under which it will take over state highways having high-traffic density for expansion, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday. Gadkari, who handles the road transport and highways portfolio, said a state highway will be expanded into a four or six lane road by the Centre and toll will be collected for 25 years before handing the asset back to the state. "we will take that highway from the state government (and) will collect the toll," Gadkari said, speaking at a convention organised by the Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI) here. The minister, who has built a reputation for constructing mega road projects across the country, exuded confidence that the money invested for a particular highway's expansion into a 4-6 lane carriageway can be recovered in 12-13 years itself. He, however, did not offer any elaboration on the evinced plan like if the Centre is in talks with any states or the overall outlay under this or if such

India can become 'super economic power', says Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that India can become a "super economic power" given its economic potential. He was speaking on the topic "India's Growth" at an award ceremony organised by Pune Mirror, an English daily. As much as 52 to 54 per cent growth in the country comes from the service industry, 20 to 24 per cent from the manufacturing industry and agriculture and allied sectors contribute 12 to 14 per cent growth, he said. "India is the fastest growing economy....I feel there is huge potential for the Indian economy and we can become a super economic power," he said. The industrial growth in urban areas is good but it lags in rural and tribal areas and in agriculture, he noted. "So the most important challenge before the Indian economy is how we are going to create an economy which is going to create more employment potential," he said. "We are importing petrol and diesel worth Rs 17 lakh crore and creating pollution in the country. We can diversify

The latest EV from the German car maker comes with a price tag of Rs 1.55 crore. The EQS 580 joins the company's EQC SUV and AMG EQS53 4MATIC flagship EV.
