IT services firm Wipro on Monday said it has partnered with Finnish telecom and IT company Nokia to deliver private wireless solutions to enterprises. Through this solution, enterprises will be able to create an integrated private environment that they can control to better manage their performance and mitigate security risks, as per a statement said. Wipro said the joint private wireless solution with Nokia will "help enterprises scale their digital transformation". This joint solution will provide enterprises with a more secure 5G private wireless network solution integrated with their operation infrastructure, it said. Finnish IT and tech firm Nokia on Tuesday announced the appointment of Tarun Chhabra as its country manager in India with effect from April 1, 2024. He will replace Sanjay Malik who retires on March 31, 2024. "Tarun Chhabra will continue in his role of Head of Mobile Networks Market India in addition to assuming India Country Manager responsibilities," the company said in a statement. Nokia on Thursday reported a double-digit decline in sales and a fall in profit in the last three months of 2023, with the wireless and fixed-network equipment maker saying operators are cutting back on investments into 5G and other technology because of economic uncertainty. The Espoo, Finland-based company reported net profit of 568 million euros ($619 million) for the October-to-December quarter, down from 929 million euros in the same period a year earlier. Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia has bagged a pan-India deal from Bharti Airtel Ltd to deploy a next-generation optical transport network that will enhance the telecom firm's bandwidth multifold. According to sources aware of the deal, the data transmission capacity of a core network layer of Bharti Airtel that sends data from one city to another will double and its optical fibre network capacity to transmit data will grow up to four times from the current capacity. "As part of the agreement, Airtel will utilize Nokia's 1830 PSS-x OTN switches in its National Long-Distance Network connecting major cities across India," Nokia said in a statement. The technology will help the Airtel network from disruption caused by optical fibre cable damage as the transport layer will reroute the traffic through other cable links. Finnish telecom company Nokia on Thursday said its Chennai plant has achieved the production milestone of 7 million telecom network gear units. The company started the plant 15 years ago and is one of the largest factories of Nokia globally. "Nokia's factory in Chennai has reached a significant production milestone by reaching seven million telecom units. The factory has completed fifteen years of operation this year and is playing a key role in boosting telecom equipment manufacturing in the country," Nokia said.
