7 dead, many infected amid Cholera outbreak in Odisha's Rayagada district

Seven people have died of cholera and about 100 others have been affected by the water-borne disease in Kashipur block in Odisha's Rayagada district, an official said on Tuesday. This was revealed by Rayagada District Collector Swadha Dev Singh based on a report of the ICMR's Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar. Though initially, we were suspecting it to be diarrhoea, later it came to the fore that people might have been infected to cholera also. They collapsed because they could not get the proper medical attention at the due time, Singh told PTI over phone. She said now the administration is focusing on early identification of cases based on the symptoms so that they can be provided medical attention immediately. Official sources said that three out of the nine samples of rectal swabs of patients in the district were found to have presence of the Vibrio cholerae bacteria. Odisha's single-day Covid-19 count breaches 1,000-mark after 5 months

Odisha recorded 1,043 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, the highest single-day tally in five months, taking the caseload to 12,97,175, the health department said in a bulletin. The state had on February 13 registered 1,148 cases. The toll mounted to 9,128 after an 82-year-old man died of the disease in Sundargarh, it said. Odisha currently has 4,825 active cases, while 12,83,169 patients have recovered from the disease so far, including 479 since Thursday, it added. Besides, 53 patients have died due to comorbidities so far. Single-day count has more than doubled since 470 cases on July 8. The positivity rate jumped to 5.59 per cent from 4.18 per cent a day ago with the new cases having been detected after testing 18,664 samples. As many as 100 children were among the new patients, the bulletin said. Khurda, where state capital Bhubaneswar is situated, reported the highest number of new cases at 335, followed by 205 in Cuttack and 106 in Sundargarh, it added.

With 804 new cases, Odisha reports highest Covid infections in 5 months

Odisha reported 804 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest in nearly five months, the health department said. The positivity rate jumped to 4.18 per cent as the cases were detected after testing 19,218 samples. Seventy-one children were among the new patients, it said. Khurda, where the capital Bhubaneswar is located, reported the highest number of 307 cases, followed by 119 cases in Cuttack. On February 17, the state reported 886 cases. The toll remained at 9,127 as there were no new deaths. The active cases climbed to 4,262, out of which 1,694 patients are in Khurda. As many as 420 more people recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 12,82,690. The state has so far reported 12,96,132 cases.
