Operation Sindoor made clear India's policy against terrorism: PM Modi

Asserting that Operation Sindoor has made clear to the world India's stringent policy against terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that his government takes whatever steps are appropriate in national interest. Weapons manufactured in India showed their impact during the conflict with Pakistan, he said, without naming the country, at an event to mark the centenary celebration of the conversation between spiritual figure and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi. "We have shown that no hideout is safe for terrorists who spill the blood of Indians," he said, adding that his government has worked on ideals of the revered spiritual figure who wanted a strong India which was free of any discrimination. Modi said his government in the past 11 years has worked to make India strong in social, economic and defence sectors. He said India's reliance on foreign countries to meet its defence needs is declining, and it is becoming "aatmanirbhar" in defence ...

Rajnath to focus on cooperation to counter terrorism at SCO meet in China

In line with India's diplomatic offensive against Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to press the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to ramp up efforts to contain terrorism at a two-day conclave of the bloc in China's Qingdao that begins on Wednesday. Singh is travelling to Qingdao, a port city in China's eastern Shandong province, for the conclave which is expected to extensively deliberate on the evolving regional security scenario. The defence minister's plan to call for greater regional cooperation to counter terrorism comes nearly a month-and-a-half after India carried out precision strikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistani territories in response to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. It is the first visit to China by a senior Indian minister after the ties came under severe strain following the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh that began in May 2020. NSA Ajit Doval is also ..

Pakistan extends airspace ban for Indian aircraft by another month

Pakistan authorities on Monday announced to extend the airspace ban on Indian aircraft for another month. The ban was initially imposed on April 23 for one month in the wake of tension between the two countries following the Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed at least 26 people. Later, it was extended for another month on May 23, when ties had deteriorated due to the four day conflict as India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and destroyed terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan. According to a NOTAM, or Notice to Airmen, issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority, the ban has been extended from June 23 to July 23. Pakistan airspace not available for Indian registered aircraft and aircraft operated/owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators including military flights, it said. India's strikes as part of Operation Sindoor triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with the cessation of on-ground hostilities after an understanding on stopping the ..

We shouldn't expect smooth sailing always: EAM on neighbourhs, volatility

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India "should not expect smooth sailing" all the time when it comes to its ties with the neighbouring countries, but asserted that New Delhi has tried to create a "collective interest" to build an inherent stability in relationships, irrespective of the regime. At the end of the day, "the logic every one of our neighbours must realise" is that working with India will "give you benefits", and not working with India "has a cost", he said, without elaborating. "Some take longer to realise, some understand it better. One exception of course is Pakistan, because it has defined its identity under the army, in a way it has an in-built hostility in it. So if you put Pakistan aside, the logic will apply everywhere else," the EAM said during an interactive session hosted on DD India. Jaishankar shared a link to the nearly hour-long interaction on his X handle on Saturday night. In conversation with a strategic expert, he was also asked about the ..

Parks reopened at tourist destinations in J-K, including some in Pahalgam

Several parks in Jammu and Kashmir's tourist places, including some in Pahalgam, that were closed in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack were reopened on Tuesday, officials said. The reopening of the parks has been welcomed by the tourists and local visitors alike who thronged the parks at several places. Security personnel were deployed in strength around the parks to secure the areas and create a sense of security, they said. Twenty-six people, most of them tourists, were killed by terrorists in Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday ordered the reopening of 16 parks -- eight each in Jammu region and Kashmir Valley. He said the destinations would be reopened in a phased manner. In the first phase, eight parks were reopened in the Kashmir valley.
