Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta charged that the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojna, as a "substitute" for the PM Awas Yojna (PMAY), was "cheating" the poor people in the city. A Delhi government spokesperson said under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojna, 18,000 residential units are to be distributed to beneficiaries for which a survey was being undertaken. "Under the PMAY, the seed money is just Rs one lakh, which is inadequate. Our scheme is better than it and 18,000 houses are to be distributed among beneficiaries after the survey," he said. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Wednesday called on Governor ESL Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan. Rao met the governor after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi's state committee meeting. Opposed to the idea of simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, several opposition parties, including the Congress, on Wednesday skipped an all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of 'one nation, one election'. Those joining the Congress in not attending the meeting included the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the DMK, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Trinamool Congress. Sources said the NDA constituent Shiv Sena did not attend the meeting as it was the party's foundation day. A total of 169 newly recruited IAS officers were on Wednesday posted as assistant secretaries in different central government departments for three months, beginning July 1. The posting is part of a unique initiative started by the central government to groom bureaucrats at the Centre before they move out to their respective state cadres. All officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) are allotted cadres which could either be a state or group of states. The officers are supposed to start their career in their respective cadre states. As per rules, IAS officers are eligible to come on central deputation only after completing nine years of service at their respective cadres. The ruling TRS in Telangana would lay the foundation stone for construction of its party offices in 32 districts in the State on June 24. The government Wednesday proposed to waive registration charges for electric vehicles to boost adoption of environment-friendly vehicles. The proposal comes at a time when the country plans high penetration of such vehicles by 2030. Issuing the draft notification to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989, the road transport and highways ministry said battery-operated vehicles "shall be exempted from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark". The exemption will apply to all category of vehicles, including two-wheelers. The ministry has issued the draft notification for amendments in CMVR where the amendments in Rule 81 are proposed for such waiver. The amendments will be done in exercise of the powers conferred on the central government under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Union Road Transport ministry has approved the Goa government's plan to import tar from West Asian countries in the wake of its shortage in local markets, State PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said here Wednesday. He said Goa annually requires 4.5 lakh tonnes of tar which is used to repair roads across the length and breadth of the coastal state. According to the minister, many internal roads could not be repaired last year due to scarcity of tar in the markets of Mumbai and Mangalore. "We told Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari that apart from the shortage, the quality of tar in the markets of Mumbai and Mangalore is found to be poor. Gadkari approved our demand to import tar from the Middle East countries," Pauskar said. He said tenders would be issued for the import. "The tar would be brought to the Mormugao Port Trust in Vasco and stored at a particular place for disbursal," he said.

The Gujarat government will not organise 'Shala Praveshotsav', an annual drive aimed at promoting enrolment in schools, this year, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said here Wednesday. In order to increase the enrolment in schools, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the drive in 2003 when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. Since then, the drive is being conducted every year by the state government. Earlier this month, the state government had announced that the programme will be held on June 13 and 14 in rural areas and June 15 in urban areas across Gujarat. However, the drive was postponed for an indefinite period in view of cyclone Vayu's advancement towards Gujarat on June 13, Chudasama said. The Andhra Pradesh government was allotted the buildings in four blocks at the secretariat complex after bifurcation of the state in 2014, as Hyderabad was since made common capital for both the states for 10 years. Earlier this month, the Governor of both the states ESL Narasimhan issued an order re-allotting the buildings and bungalows under the Andhra Pradesh governments custody to Telangana.
