Maharashtra govt approves recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors

The Maharashtra government on Monday approved the recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors in non-government aided senior colleges, introducing mandatory CCTV recording of the entire interview process to ensure transparency. As per a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Higher and Technical Education Department, the posts had been approved based on student-strength and workload calculations as of October 2025 across state public universities. The GR provides further instructions from time to time to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. Colleges must obtain university approval for recruitment advertisements and publish them in a national newspaper and a state-level newspaper, it said, adding that applications can be accepted both online and offline. Candidates will be shortlisted as per the criteria prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), while social and parallel reservation policies would have to be followed. The protest against alleged examination irregularities in Jharkhand intensified on Thursday with opposition MLAs protesting on Assembly premises on the first day of its Monsoon Session, as the stir gained steam over the past 13 days with six demonstrators on hunger strike. WB to complete non-teaching staff recruitment by Dec 31: Education Minister

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu on Thursday said the School Service Commission is working in a transparent manner to complete the fresh recruitment process in the wake of a Supreme Court order that annulled jobs of thousands of teaching and non-teaching staffers. The apex court had earlier this year invalidated jobs of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staffers, who were appointed in state-run and state-aided schools, terming the 2016 SSC teacher recruitment process vitiated and tainted. Noting that the top court had asked the SSC to complete the recruitment process by December 31, conducting fresh tests and interviews, Basu told reporters, "We are confident of addressing the issue in a time-bound and transparent manner." Claiming that the September 7 and September 14 recruitment test process was unique and a first for the country, uploading model answer keys for candidates and providing a carbon copy for every sheet, he said, "Each and every clause and detail was adhered
