I played the match I was asked to play: Iyer not thinking about England

Shreyas Iyer is neither losing his sleep over snub for the Afghanistan T20s nor is he overtly worried about the upcoming England Test series after a forgettable run in South Africa. Iyer was not picked for the ongoing T20 series against Afghanistan and people in know of things said that his missing out had more to do with Indian top-order being stacked with right-handers. "See, right now I'm being in the present. I have finished the match which I was asked to play (Ranji game against Andhra). I came, and I executed, so I am happy with what I'm doing. "Something that is not in my control, I can't be focusing on that. Coming here and winning the match was my focus and that's what we did today," Iyer told reporters after Mumbai's emphatic win. Iyer, after a poor series in South Africa where he seemed like a 'walking wicket', was instructed by selectors to go and play Ranji Trophy for Mumbai as he is a part of the Test team. Iyer scored a run-a-ball 48 as Andhra bowlers tried to explo

Shreyas Iyer added to Mumbai squad for Ranji Trophy game against Andhra

India batter Shreyas Iyer was on Tuesday added to the Mumbai squad for their next Ranji Trophy game against Andhra to be played here from January 12-15. Having struggled with the bat largely during India's two-match Test series in South Africa in challenging conditions, the right-handed batter would be looking to regain form and bolster preparations for the Tests against England beginning January 25. Iyer has replaced middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, who will join the India A team for the series against England A in Ahmedabad. However, Mumbai will be without the services of all-rounder Shivam Dube who has been summoned to the national team for the upcoming three-match series starting against Afghanistan beginning on January 11. The 41-time winners in the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai, are coming off an outright win against Bihar in Patna. Mumbai bagged seven points after they crushed Bihar by a margin of an innings and 51 runs with their fast bowlers ruling the roost. Mumbai squad: Ajin

IND vs SA 2nd Test preview: Bowlers face tall task; Rohit seeks redemption

Rohit Sharma, the leader, will need to channelise the champion tactician that resides in him as India look to restore parity against South Africa and remain consequential in the World Championship points table when the second Test starts here on Wednesday. Ravindra Jadeja, India's "Most Valuable Player" across formats, will come back to add the requisite middle-order batting balance and steady overs with the old Kookaburra but it will be the skipper's choice of third and fourth speed merchants that will define the embattled team's response. As harsh as it might sound, no one knows more than Rohit that Prasidh Krishna is pretty undercooked to counter the vagaries of Test cricket and Shardul Thakur's bits and pieces talent will not win him much on most days. But with three top-order batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer compounding the team's worries with their ineptitude while dealing with the bouncer barrage, Shardul's presence gives the side an assumption of ...

IND vs SA 2nd Test: Shreyas Iyer faces short ball barrage in net session

Virat Kohli looked a million dollars as he did extensive simulation for South Africa's left-arm pacer Nandre Burger but Shreyas Iyer's problems seemed to continue while facing a barrage of short balls at nets here on Monday. On the New Year's Day, it was business as usual for Kohli, who had an extended session lasting close to an hour. First, he was at the centre nets against bowlers and then he faced high-intensity throwdowns for about 20 to 25 minutes at outside nets. Kohli is known to come to nets with specific purpose and on Monday, it seemed he wanted to extensively bat against a left-arm pacer. Since the Indian team's pace bowling roster doesn't include a left-armer, a net bowler was summoned and Kohli faced a good 25 to 30 deliveries from him in between playing against Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, R Ashwin and Avesh Khan. Kohli was repeatedly seen putting in a big stride forward and at times walking a couple of steps to whip the bowler through mid wicket. However, the on

IPL 2024: Shreyas Iyer returns to KKR captaincy, Rana named his deputy

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, the management announced on Thursday. The 29-year-old had missed the entire IPL 2023 season because of a back injury that required surgery in London in April, forcing KKR to give captaincy to Nitish Rana. Making the announcement, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said: We are delighted that he's back and at the helm as captain. Shreyas made a comeback in the Asia Cup in September and returned to form in the home series against Australia with an 86-ball hundred in Mohali. In the recently-concluded World Cup, he batted in the key No. 4 slot, scoring 530 runs from 11 innings with two centuries and three fifties at an average of 66.25. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character. Rana, who led KKR to a seventh-place finish in IPL 2023, was named the vice-captain. I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including m

IND vs AUS 4th T20: Iyer's inclusion will make a big impact - Ravi Bishnoi

Shreyas Iyer brings a huge reputation as a T20 batter and is poised to make a big impact in the remaining two games of the five-match series, said young India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi on Friday. Designated vice-captain Iyer will be back in action after being rested for the first three matches as India will have another shot to seal the series from being 2-1 up. "It will make a big impact in our batting lineup," Bishnoi told reporters during the pre-match press conference. Shreyas amassed 530 runs in 11 matches of the recent ODI World Cup. "He brings a lot of reputation in T20 cricket and has been in good form in the World Cup. As a senior player his experience will also help us." The 23-year-old legspinner has been the pick of the bowlers in the series, having grabbed 6 wickets at 19.66. Bishnoi credited this to his skipper Suryakumar Yadav for giving the bowlers a "free hand". "As a captain, Surya bhai gives you a free hand, he gives you all the right to place the fielders, the
