AI, sports, health tourism hub to come up on Hyderabad outskirts: T'gana CM

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said a 'fourth city', after Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad here, would come up at Mucharla on the city outskirts with an AI and health tourism hub, sports, and others being developed there on a grand scale. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during a debate on the Appropriation Bill, 2024, he said the 'fourth city' would be the 'future city'. "After Hyderabad, Secunderabad city, Cyberabad city, we are going to establish a 'fourth city' at Mucharla," he said. While Hyderabad and Secunderabad are known as twin cities, the IT hub at Gachibowli in the Telangana capital is known as Cyberabad. The proposed 'fourth city' would be promoted as an attractive investment destination in the world, he said. It would also be connected by metro rail. The new 'city' would be a hub of medical treatment, skill development, international cricket tournaments, golf club and employment avenues, he said. The plans include developing a health

Biles celebrates another Olympic gold while Gauff fumes over call in loss

Simone Biles reached the top of the podium yet again, cementing her legacy as the greatest American gymnast and one of the best athletes in the history of the Olympics. Biles helped the United States win the women's team event Tuesday to secure her fifth Olympic gold medal and put the U.S. back on top of the sport after a second-place finish three years ago in Tokyo. Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in front of a crowd that included Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Serena Williams, Spike Lee, Michael Phelps and Nadia Comaneci at a raucous Bercy Arena. It was the eighth Olympic medal for the 27-year-old Biles, who was previously tied with Shannon Miller at seven. Italy won the silver medal, and Brazil got the bronze. There were no such triumphs in swimming for the Americans, who couldn't manage more than silver and bronze medals. In tennis, it was Coco Gauff left fuming over an officiating decision in a loss to Donna Vekic of Croatia. There were no winners or losers

Olympics 2024: Kevin Durant scores 23 points, help US beat Serbia

Kevin Durant is back. And in his debut with the U.S. Olympic team this summer, he didn't miss a beat at the Paris Games. Didn't miss much of anything, in fact. Durant the all-time leading scorer in U.S. men's Olympic history scored 23 points on 8-for-9 shooting in just under 17 minutes of action Sunday, helping the Americans roll past Serbia 110-84 in the Olympic opener for both teams. It was Durant's debut this summer after spending about a month dealing with a calf strain, one that occasionally had him worried that he'd miss the Paris Games. I eased him in," U.S. coach Steve Kerr said. "He didn't ease himself in. Not one bit. Durant had five 3-pointers in the first half, and a fadeaway at the buzzer as he fell to the floor gave the U.S. a 58-49 lead going to the locker room. He missed his only shot from the floor in the second half, but the U.S. defense had taken over at that point and turned the game into a runaway. Oh, man, Durant said of the one shot he missed. Felt good ..

Sri Lanka names Nuwan Thushara's replacement for T20I series against India

Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Thushara has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20 International series against India after picking up a finger injury at training. The 29-year-old injured his left thumb while fielding during a training session on Wednesday. Although the injury was sustained on his non-bowling arm, it is severe enough to rule him out of the three T20Is, starting here on Saturday. Fellow pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been named as replacement. Thushara's injury is a severe setback for the hosts. The pacer had been in great form lately, finishing as the team's highest wicket-taker during the T20 World Cup last month. He had scalped eight wickets in three outings at an economy of 5.62, with best figures of 4/18. Thushara has become the second Lankan pacer to be ruled out of the series after Dushmantha Chameera was pulled out from the squad due to illness, with Asitha Fernando filling in for him.

In talks on with 3 Indian cities for potential return in 2026: Formula E

Formula E is in talks with three big cities in India for a potential return of the race in 2026, top officials of the all-electric racing series told PTI here on Friday. The Hyderabad round was dropped from the 2024 calendar due to the change in government in Telangana. Hosting a global motorsport event was not a priority of the new government which came to power last December. For Formula E, not respecting the multi-year agreement was a clear breach of contract. However, India is a market that Formula E cannot ignore and that is why it remains determined for a comeback. The calendar for the next season is already announced, so, the focus is on getting the race reinstated for the season beginning in December 2025. "Unfortunately due to the change of government in Telangana, we had to leave Hyderabad. It was a fantastic race. India is a Tier 1 market for us. We are working on a daily basis to try to be back there. Hopefully it will happen in 2026," Formula E co-founder Alberto Lon

Here what Olympians should take note from Mike Conley's 1988 Olympics race

Mike Conley spent most of the 1980s ranked among the top triple jumpers in the world. So, heading into the U.S. Olympic trials in '88, there was very little thought given to the idea he wouldn't finish in the top three and make the trip to Seoul. In a sport embedded inside an Olympic world where gold medals can be won and careers can be made by the most minuscule of fractions of seconds or inches or centimeters what toppled Conley's hopes had nothing to do with a measuring tape. It was a pair of baggy shorts, the likes of which he had never worn in a track meet before, that did him in. Conley recalls video replays that showed the breeze that was kicked up by the vented flaps on the sides of his shorts created a barely perceptible mark in the sand nearly a foot behind where he landed. Officials measured Conley's jump from the mark the shorts made. It cost him precious centimeters and he finished fourth, one spot out of the Olympics. Devastating, the now-61-year-old dad of ...

Plans to make India global sporting superpower in place since Covid: Govt

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday asserted that India will be among the world's top-five sporting nations by 2047, revealing that the roadmap to achieve this was worked out amid the upheaval caused by COVID-19 three years ago. Mandaviya said sports is a focus area in the government's ambitious plan to turn India into a superpower by 2047. "When the country was under COVID-19 lockdown, the government was brainstorming for 2047, making a roadmap for 2047. One of the components of that roadmap is sports," Mandaviya said during a panel discussion on India's preparations for Paris Olympics. The discussion was organised by the Delhi Sports Journalists Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India. "Our government has set a target that in 2047, when we are a developed country, we also need to be among the top five in sports. If we don't have a pathway, we will not know whether we can achieve the target or not. "During the COVID crisis, I have been witness to a

Messi asked to apologise for Argentina players' racist chant post win

Lionel Messi faced calls to apologize for racist chants made by Argentina's players after they won the Copa America. An Argentinean government official said Messi, who is the team captain, and the president of the country's soccer federation, Claudio Tapia, should apologize after a video was shared on social media showing members of Argentina's triumphant squad singing a racist chant about French players with African heritage. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez said he was truly sorry for the incident and his Premier League club Chelsea said it had begun disciplinary action, describing discriminatory behavior as completely unacceptable. It is unclear from the video if Messi widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time participated in the chant. But Argentina's sports sub-secretary, Julio Garro, said he should say sorry. The national team captain must also come out to apologize for this case. The same AFA (Argentina Football Association) president," Garro said in radio
