Tamil Nadu coronavirus update: State reports 4,295 new cases, 57 deaths

Tamil Nadu reported 4,295 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday taking the total reported count of cases to 6,83,486.The state Health and Family Welfare Department said 5,005 patients were discharged today. The state has 40,192 active cases.The department said that 57 more persons have succumbed to coronavirus in the state taking the death toll to 10,586.The total number of discharged and recovered cases stand at 6,32,708.

Tamil Nadu gets permission to borrow additional amount of Rs 9,627 crore

The Department of Expenditure under Ministry of Finance on Wednesday granted permission to Tamil Nadu to raise an additional amount of Rs 9,627 crore through open market borrowings.The permission was issued after the state formally communicated its acceptance for option one to meet the shortfall arising out of GST implementation. A total of 21 states and two union territories -- Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir -- have so far requested for option one.A day earlier, the Department of Expenditure issued permission to 20 states to raise an additional amount of Rs 68,825 crore through open market borrowings. With today's permission, 21 states have been granted permission to mobilise Rs 78,542 crore so far.The borrowing permission issued to the 21 states is over and above the borrowing permission of around Rs 1.10 lakh crore to be issued to enable them to meet the revenue shortfall arising out of GST implementation. A special window is being created by the Ministry of Finance to facilitate this

Highway works worth Rs 11k cr underway for TN-Pondy connectivity: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said highway works worth Rs 11,000 crore were underway for Tamil Nadu-Puducherry connectivity. Dedicating to the nation Rs 35 crore road-over-bridge on NH 45-A at Puducherry, the minister said this will ease traffic congestion. Inaugurating the one-kilometre long Road-Over-Bridge across Railway Level Crossing on NH 45-A at Arumparthapuram, Puducherry, built at a cost of Rs 35 crore, the minister said the project is envisaged to bring relief to public from traffic jam resulting in saving of time and fuel, safe commutation, reduction in pollution, closure of level crossing, and unhindered passage of railway traffic. The Road Transport and Highways Minister said the work under progress is in an aggregate length of 287 km for an amount of about Rs 11,000 crore for Tamil Nadu - Puducherry Connectivity.
