UN fears more 'displacement' from Sudan despite tenuous cease-fire

The UN refugee agency warned Tuesday of further displacement of people from Sudan after thousands streamed into neighbouring Chad and South Sudan despite a tenuous cease-fire between the two warring Sudanese generals battling for control of the country. India right to ask for major course correction of UNSC: Indian envoy Kamboj

India is right in demanding a major course correction of the UN Security Council when the world's largest democracy is kept out of the global decision making, the country's UN envoy has said. India has been at the forefront of the years-long efforts to reform the Security Council, saying it rightly deserved a place as a permanent member of the United Nations. Currently, the UNSC has five permanent members China, France, Russia, the UK and the US. Only a permanent member has the power to veto any substantive resolution. India was a founding signatory to the UN Charter when it was signed on June 26, 1945, in San Francisco. Seventy-seven years later, when we see the world's largest democracy, along with entire continents of Africa and Latin America, being kept out of global decision making, we rightly call for a major course correction, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said in the UN Security Council on Monday. She was addressing the Security ...

India's focus on digital health can serve as model for others: UN official

With India assuming the G20 presidency, the country's focus on digital health can serve as a model for other countries to replicate or initiate similar programmes which can accelerate their own digital health initiatives and improve health outcomes for their populations, a senior United Nations official said on Wednesday. Dr Karin Kllander, senior health adviser and chief of the Digital Health and Information Systems Unit in UNICEF Health Programme, said some potential strategies for replicating India's digital health interventions in other countries include developing a comprehensive digital health strategy, building a supportive regulatory environment and fostering public-private partnerships. She was speaking at the second G20 health working group meeting here. "India's success in digital health can be attributed to a well-defined digital health strategy that aligns with the country's health priorities. Other countries can replicate this approach by developing their own ...
