Rajasthan records 'normal' rainfall this monsoon

Rajasthan has received normal rainfall this monsoon, according to the Water Resources Department here. The state received 433.38 mm rainfall during June 1 to September 3, which is 6.06 per cent less as compared to normal of 530.08 mm. Eighteen districts of the state which recorded normal rainfall are Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Ganganagar, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur. Ajmer, Barmer, Bundi, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Sirohi and Tonk districts received 'deficit' rainfall (-20 to -59 per cent) while Bharatpur, Bikaner, Sawai Madhopur and Sikar districts were under 'excess' rainfall category (20-59 per cent). "Rajasthan as a whole is under 'normal' category as it received 19 per cent to -19 per cent rainfall till Tuesday," according to the Water Resources Department here. Heavy rains lash Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district

Heavy rains lashed Rajasthan's eastern districts in 24 hours, Met Department said Monday. In Sawai Madhopur district, Sawaimadhopur tehsil, Malarnadungar, Chauth ka Barwara and Bonli recorded 27, 16, 10 and 9 cm rainfall respectively while Chaksu (Jaipur) recorded 7 cm rainfall overnight, according to the department here. Many other areas also received below 7 cm rains during this period. Kota, Churu, Jaipur and Ajmer recorded 13.8, 4.8, 0.5 and 0.2 mm rains respectively till this evening. The weatherman has forecast heavy rains during next 24 hours at isolated places in eastern parts of the state.

Rain brings down mercury in Delhi

Rains lashed the city on Monday, bringing down maximum temperature to 29.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below the average. According to the MeT office, more rains are likely in the coming days. Moderate to light rain and thundershowers are expected on Tuesday. The spell of moderate to heavy rains continued with 41.6 mm rainfall recorded between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM today, said a MeT department official. Delhi recorded 35.9 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am on Sunday and 8.30 AM on Monday. Significant rain was recorded all over the city with Lodhi Road receiving 25.9 mm, Ridge 24 mm, and Palam 8 mm of rainfall, he said. The rains led to waterlogging in many parts of the city, causing inconvenience to commuters and motorists. Odisha likely to receive heavy rainfall for 2 days from Sep 6

With a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around September 6, Odisha is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for two days from Thursday and heavy rainfall on Saturday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal districts on Thursday, the IMD said Monday. "A low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around September 6," the IMD said in a report adding that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely on Thursday and Friday. Most parts of the state have been battered by widespread rainfall for over a month owing to the formation of a series of low pressure in the region.

Potential tropical storm heads toward US Gulf Coast, Florida

A system moving quickly toward the central US Gulf Coast is expected to become a tropical storm by Monday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system is brewing about 281 kilometers east-southeast of Marathon in the Florida Keys. Maximum sustained winds of the unnamed system have been clocked at 45 kph and the system is moving west-northwest at 24 kph. The Miami-based center said in a statement Sunday evening that a storm surge watch has been issued from the Mississippi-Alabama border westward to the Mouth of the Mississippi River. A tropical storm watch has been issued for portions of the central Gulf Coast from the Alabama-Florida line westward to nearly Morgan City, Louisiana. Moderate rainfall in city, suburbs

The city and mainly the southern districts of West Bengal witnessed moderate rainfall since early morning Sunday, met office said. Intense spell of thundershowers with lightning was witnessed in some places over Kolkata, districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad, officials at the city weather office said. The city's Alipore area recorded 7.3 mm rainfall, Canning in the South 24 Parganas district got 13.2 mm rain and Dumdum 2.3 mm, while Diamond Harbour witnessed the maximum rainfall with 15.1 mm. The city and its neighbouring areas are likely to be cloudy with a few spells of rain or thundershower while the maximum and minimum temperature are likely to be around 30C Celsius and 26C Celsius respectively, the met office said.

More rains forecast for Odisha over next 48 hours

Rain-soaked Odisha is likely to be lashed by more showers over the next two days with the possibility of heavy downpour in some places, the Met office said Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara Balangir and Dhenkanal districts in the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Centre here said. Torrential rain causes severe waterlogging in Delhi

The national capital on Sunday woke up to heavy downpour causing severe waterlogging in several areas.Delhi and adjoining areas have been experiencing rainfall for the past few days, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic jam. Medicines worth Rs 1.7 cr sent to flood-ravaged Kerala: HP minister

The Himachal Pradesh Drugs Manufacturing Association with support of the state drug control administration has sent two trucks of medicines worth Rs 1.7 crore to help Keral flood victims, Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar said here on Saturday. The state government has already sent Rs 5 crore aid for the flood-ravaged southern state. As many as 483 people have lost lives in Kerala since the onset of the monsoon on May 28 and 14 were still missing. Parmar said the medicines have been provided according to the requirement of the Kerala government, and includes antibiotics, painkillers, drugs to cure diarrhea, ORS, injections, needles, syringes and glucose and others. He said the association would send more medicines within a few days.

Rain, thundershowers likely in HP

Rain and thundershowers may occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh in the next two-three days, the MeT Department said Saturday. Light to moderate rains were recorded in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba and Sirmaur. Heavy rainfall was recorded at Gohar (74 mm) in Mandi district and Palampur (73 mm) in Kangra district. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature was recorded in Keylong of Lahaul and Spiti district at 12.2 degrees Celsius whereas the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Sundernagar at 31.9 degrees Celsius.
