Max Healthcare to build two hospitals in Punjab22-NOV-09
Hospital chain Max Healthcare will invest Rs 200 crore to set up two tertiary care hospitals in Bathinda and Mohali, both in Punjab. The hospitals, coming up in partnership with the state government, would have 300 beds each, Parvez Ahmed, CEO and managing director, Max Healthcare, told Business Standard.

The per hectare yield of potato is likely to be affected by 5-10 per cent in Punjab, mainly due to prolonged heat and late kharif season. However, the area under potato cultivation would be slightly more or less same this year as compared to 81,082 hectares last year, according to the experts.
Punjab amends paddy procurement policy18-NOV-09
In a move to facilitate smooth lifting of paddy in the ‘mandis’, the Punjab government has amended the provisions of paddy procurement policy to enhance the eligibility quota of the rice mills by 500 metric tonnes (MT) per mill. Disclosing this here today, Food and Civil Supplies Department Director D S Grewal said that under the amended provisions of the policy, a rice mill with an installed capacity of one MT would now be allotted 3,000 MT of free paddy instead of earlier quota of 2,500 MT. Likewise, rice mills with an installed capacity of two MT would now be eligible to lift 4,500 MT of free paddy against the earlier allotted quota of 4,000 MT. The amended procurement policy would be applicable to the districts of Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Barnala, Moga, Faridkot and Muktsar.

BSNL to add 100,000 3G subscribers in Punjab circle12-NOV-09
State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has set an ambitious target of 100,000 3G subscribers in Punjab circle (which includes Punjab and Chandigarh) by March 2010. BSNL is hopeful that its acceptance among consumers will increase once the service is available across the state and handset costs go down. At present, it has 5,000 3G customers in Punjab circle. The service is restricted to some of the district headquarters only.
CES to ready DPRs for Punjab SEZ11-NOV-09
To attract IT investments in the state, Punjab Infotech has entrusted New Delhi-based Consulting Engineering Services (India) Private Ltd to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to set up IT Parks/SEZ projects in Kapurthala, Ropar and Rail Majra in Punjab. The final draft of the DPR is likely to be submitted very soon after getting feedback from Punjab Infotech and concerned departments involved in the project. Punjab Information & Communication Technology Corporation Ltd (Infotech) intends to develop SEZ/IT Parks on about 50 acres in Kapurthala, 240 acres in Ropar near the proposed IIT and 12 acres in Rail Majra.
