Army, Apollo tie up for 4th MWG

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad
The Army Medical Services and the Apollo Group of Hospitals have partnered to provide a comprehensive medical cover for the 4th Military World Games 2007, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from October 14.

The games, which would be held at 15 venues in the city, would see the participation of over 5,100 athletes and team officials besides large crowds who are expected to witness various events.

An event of this magnitude requires a highly efficient medical system that is capable of offering optimal services in all eventualities, AK Patra, director (medical committee), MWG, told mediapersons here on Monday.

"We have created an efficient medical healthcare system for the games. Around 15 first-aid centres are being set up and a fleet of 40 ambulances from the Army and 1066 Apollo Emergency Services will be stationed in Golconda and Secunderabad. Two Indian Air Force helicopters would also be pressed into service between the seven helipads at the different venues and the Apollo Health City at Jubilee Hills. In all, 92 medical officers and sports medical officers besides 282 paramedical staff will be deployed for these services," he added.
