CSPDC to check illegal drawing of power

State-run Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDC) will install High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) to check illegal drawing of power in the state.
According to company officials, the poles supplying power to the area will be directly connected to high voltage 11,000 Volt (11KV) line.
As per the requirement of the consumer, mini distribution transformer will be installed in each pole which will convert high voltage into low to supply electricity to the households.
Under the existing system, the low tension consumers were getting supply from the 400 Volt supply line.
“Since people were hooking up directly from the 400 V lines, the area plunged into low voltage problem and the transformers were failing due to surplus load,” company Managing Director Subodh Singh said.

Once the system was installed, people would not dare to hook up from the high voltage 11 KV line, he added.
Even if one drew power illegally, the high voltage supply would damage the electronic equipment in the house.
The person trying to hook up from 11 KV line would put his life at risk as well.
The system would be introduced on an experimental basis in Mahasamund, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh districts. It will cover the rural areas also where instances of illegal drawing of power remain high.
In urban areas, the system will cover the areas reeling under low voltage problem. Slums in the cities have been identified where the hooking problem is more.
The company had recorded about 41 per cent technical and commercial loss in the financial year 2009-10.
