First legal information portal launched

India Legal Information Institutes (Indlii) has launched first Indian portal, www.indlii.org , which provides free information about central and state laws, judgements of various courts in the country besides news of the legal world for the benefit of common persons, lawyers, law students and for persons having interest in Indian legal system.
 
The portal provides information on various laws of state and central government, judgements of Supreme Court of India in the first phase and planning to provide judgements of high courts of respective state in second phase.
 
It also plans to provide information on judgements of district courts across in India in near future. The portal is developed by Ahmedabad based technology consulting company Bitscape Solutions in association with Indlii.
 
Commenting on key initiative to empower people with legal information, Talwant Singh, general secretary of the India Legal Information Institute said "India Legal Information Institutes have a mission to provide free legal information to all. The institute has a vast resource of highly qualified law experts who are dedicated to the cause of free flow of legal information. We believe that everyone has a right to know the law of the land free of cost and the portal would play a great role in achieving this goal since anyone can get information from anywhere anytime".
 
According to Singh, a lot of ground work on part of the IT company, Bitscape Solutions, was required.
 
"The portal is a complex platform of information about different aspects of law and judiciary has become a reality with the technical support of the Bitscape Solutions. It required a lot of ground work on the part of Bitscape and it was not an easy task with lot of references and cross references," said Singh.
 
Describing the portal, Kartik Shah, director, business development, Bitscape Solutions said that creating the free legal portal of the Institute had been a great challenging experience for them till now.
 
"Bitscape Solution has achieved one more landmark in its history beside list of successful global projects. We decided to support this initiative with a view to give back something of to the society, after all this complex project will not only achieve the vision of indlii.org but also help the society by making judiciary information for public awareness which so that no one can now benefit from their being unaware about it," said an exuberant Shah.
