Government-owned NTPC Vidyut Vapyar Nigam Ltd (NVVNL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, is planning to procure up to 1,000 Mw of solar power by 2013, and mix it with the unallocated thermal power to produce bundled power.

The “bundled power should come at Rs 5-5.50 per unit, said Inderjit Kapoor, director (commercial), NPTC, on the sidelines of a press meet here today.

“The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), along with the power ministry, will fix criteria for selecting solar power developers, after which NVVNL will float an expression of interest (EoI). If bundled with thermal energy, the cost will come down to Rs 5-5.50 per unit,” Kapoor said.

The EoI is expected to come by April 2010.

The National Solar Mission envisages 20,000 Mw of solar power capacity by 2022. MNRE has targeted a solar energy generation of 1,300 Mw in the first phase of the solar mission, which ends 2013, and NVVNL has been appointed the nodal agency for buying the entire generation.
