TN assembly 'greets' film industry for strike

Tamil Nadu Assembly today conveyed its 'whole-hearted greetings' to the Tamil film industry for organising strike and fast to protest against attacks on cinema halls screening Tamil films in Bangalore as well as Karnataka's opposition to Hogenakkal water project.

Responding to a request from DMDK member and Tamil actor, Vijayakant, Leader of the House and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan wished all success to the actors and technicians for taking part in the agitation.

"The film industry is undertaking this protest to send across a message to Karnataka. This House extends its whole-hearted greetings as well as goodwill," Anbazhagan said.

Several top film actors here participated in the eight-hour fast organised by the South India Film Chamber of Commerce.

The fast was organised to protest the attacks on two cinema houses in Bangalore as well as attempts to ban Tamil TV channels in Karnataka by pro-Kannada groups opposing the Hogenakkal water project proposed to be built by Tamil Nadu on the border of Hogenakkal to provide drinking water to two districts. The chamber also called for a one-day strike by the film industry here as part of their protest.
