Swedish truck and bus maker Volvo is banking on the iron ore and coal mining sectors to increase its high-end truck sales in the country.
“It is crucial for us that the coal mining sector opens mines in the country. At a time where business is tough for everybody in the mining sector, Volvo has made efforts to develop a new mining truck and we are banking on the mining sector to increase our sales in the days to come,” Philippe Divry, managing director, Volvo India Private Limited, and a Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles board member said.
Talking to reporters after launching a new dump truck specifically made for deep open cast mining applications in India, he said the company expected the new Volvo FM480 10x4 Dump Truck to set new benchmarks in the mining industry.
The truck is built on the powerful, reliable & proven Volvo FM13-litre platform.
Divry said, “This is the biggest truck ever launched in India. It looks like a truck, but produces like a machine. The Volvo FM480 10x4 Dump Truck is slated to be the next big game changer in the mining industry.”
Volvo trucks operate only in select premium and niche segments in India and hold the Number 1 position in the premium European truck segment in India. It holds 70 per cent of the market share in India. “With higher productivity at optimum cost being the need of the hour, we have designed the Volvo 10x4 in such a way that it’ll strike the perfect balance between productivity, performance and efficiency,” Divry said.
Volvo trucks product range in India includes the FM & FMX range of tippers & FM Rigid Trucks for special applications like fire tenders, sky lifts, boom pumps, concrete mixers and the FM/FH range of tractors in different configurations. Volvo FM Tractor series has applications in express cargo, petroleum & chemicals, bulk cargo, construction and special cargo.
