Bjp Will Secure Majority In Polls, Says Advani

BSCAL

BJP PRESIDENT L.K. Advani yesterday claimed the party and its allies would secure absolute majority in the next general elections even without the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party, the partys coalition partner in Uttar Pradesh.

The next general elections was expected to be held in February, Advani told newsmen here. He said the power sharing agreement with the BSP was confined to Uttar Pradesh only and it would be reviewed after the present term of BJP rule for six months.

It was BSP which had first approached BJP for support from outside to form a ministry but BJP had spurned it, he said, adding the power sharing agreement came into being only when BSP agreed to form a coalition government.

The BJP, he said, had suffered a lot in the past by extending support to other parties from outside and would never repeat the mistake, the party president said.

The Congress by supporting United Front government at the Centre and Shankarsinh Vaghela government in Gujarat from out side had made them unstable, he said.

The instability of the UF government was not because it was formed of 14 different parties, but because Congress and CPI(M) had been supporting it from outside without participating in the coalition, Advani said.

As of now corruption and instability of the government would be the main issues in the mid-term election though some more issues may come up depending on the political situation prevailing in the country, two months prior to the election, Advani said.

Explaining reasons for the BJP and its allies getting majority in the mid-term election, he said his party was the only one which was growing from strength to strength regularly in every election and its growing popularity was reflected in the recent by-election results.

He said the BJP was also enjoying the sympathy of the people because last time the parties which won elections with anti-Congress votes did not extend support to BJP, the largest single party in the Lok Sabha, to form a non-Congress government.

People felt that BJP was betrayed by these parties and the fact that we have a leader like Atal Behari Vajpayee, people will definitely see to it that nothing comes in the way for his becoming the next prime minister,
