George Fernandes Back As Defence Minister

Samata Party leader George Fernandes on Monday assumed charge as defence minister shortly after being inducted into the Union Cabinet.

Fernandes drove to his South Block office and took over his new assignment exactly seven months after he resigned owning moral responsibility in the wake of Tehelka expose.

Along with Fernandes, Harin Pathak, BJP MP from Gujarat, was also sworn in. He got the portfolio of minister of state defence production and supplies.
