The Union minister for heavy industries Praful Patel today admitted that the activism in the government has hit the implementation of some mega projects in the country.

"There have been many activists or activism in the government. Therefore, we have many self- inflicted goals," he observed. Stating that the government has not done enough to clear the issues surrounding the mega projects, which could have been resolved easily, he pitched for a direct fast track approach to build various projects in the country.

"We need to address the issues, whether they are for irrigation, industries, railway and mining projects, in a time bound manner," he added.

Patel was in the city to attend a daylong conference 'Foresight2014' organised by a leading media channel. The former civil aviation minister said the new terminal building of the Bhubaneswar airport was delayed by 1.5 years because of the environmental clearances.

On a query, whether has been selective discrimination against projects in according environment clearances, Patel said, "I will not say it is deliberate or designed. But because of the activism within there have been many situations which could have been avoided."
