Re moves up to 43.54/$, gilts steady

The spot rupee, which opened at 43.57 per dollar, closed on a firm note at 43.54 per dollar due to selling by banks. The rupee had closed at 43.59 per dollar yesterday.

The prices of government securities was range-bound in 10-15 paise band today. The top traded security, the 10.25% 2,021 bond, however, moved up 50 paise due to brisk trading.

The 10-year, 7.38% 2,015 bond closed flat at an yield of 7.02%.

Call rates closed at 5%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 37,000 crore.
