Sensex zooms 144pts to 12,040, RIL sizzles

The benchmark BSE Sensex today closed at a record level of 12,040 - up 144 points. The index crossed the 12,000-mark for the first ever time in history.

Reliance and metal stocks were the prime drivers of the rally today.

Reliance zoomed over 8% (Rs 74) to Rs 995. Tata Steel and Hindalco were up over 5% each at Rs 644 and Rs 216, respectively.
