Former Social Welfare Minister of Bihar Manju Verma on Tuesday surrendered before Begusarai Court in connection with an Arms Act case.

Earlier this month, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Verma after 50 live cartridges were seized from her residence during a raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

After issuance of the warrant, Verma had been absconding in this case. The Supreme Court on October 31 had also rapped the Bihar Police for its failure in arresting Verma.

She came under the scrutiny after her spouse Chandrashekhar Verma came under fire for allegedly having links with Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

The shelter home rape case pertains to the alleged sexual harassment of 44 girls residing at the state-run shelter home.
