Metal stocks edge lower
Metal stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Metal index decreasing 255.71 points or 2.99% at 8306.77 at 13:49 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 6.11%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 4.42%),Vedanta Ltd (down 3.85%),Tata Steel Ltd (down 3.31%),NMDC Ltd (down 3.1%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Coal India Ltd (down 2.79%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 2.69%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 2.07%), JSW Steel Ltd (down 1.99%), and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 1.41%).
At 13:49 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 256.48 or 0.68% at 37384.79.
The Nifty 50 index was down 65.9 points or 0.59% at 11039.45.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 51.89 points or 0.41% at 12536.89.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 23.11 points or 0.54% at 4233.91.
On BSE,883 shares were trading in green, 1454 were trading in red and 137 were unchanged.
