Turning spotlight on the much maligned domestic helps in households, who commute from faraway suburbs to the city every morning, Mahulbanir Sereng director Sekhar Das says despite the dwindling of single screen theatres there will be always takers for the film on subalterns.

In the just released 'Nayan Chapar Dinratri', the maker of Maoist-issue based Mohulbanir Sereng, deals with the travails of the scores of such women travelling in Lakshmikantopur, Canning, Hasnabad Locals to upscale Salt Lake, Ballygunje areas of the city.

Sekhar, the national award winner director, feels the issue of subalterns - from domestic helps to a smalltime burglar eking out a living after finding all avenues are not popping up in contemporary Bengali films which are still stuck with 'strange, irrelevant , fantasy' issues .

"Let's attempt films which talk about the issues which concern us every day, of humanity," the award winner Krantikal director said before the film's premier at state-run Nandan theatre this evening.

Sekhar, who called himself a guerilla director, felt the number of audiences in single screen theatres can't be the sole index of Bengali audiences as there is an ever expanding satellite market.

"My Mahulbanir Sereng had been screened over 20 times in television. Kaler Rakhal is still discussed among the audiences. So screen distribution network is not the only medium to reach out with the number of theatres reduced by half in past one decade," Sekhar said.

About the acclaims for Rupa Ganguly in the role of a maid, SEkhar said, "She had told me of her wish to play a domestic help years back.
