Manna From Heaven

Some of them, of course, will wonder what sort of prime minister he will make. After all, it is a multi-faceted job, requiring skills and stamina which few are lucky enough to possess in the right mix. There is also the political dimension which requires detailed knowledge of the party and what makes it tick. The job also demands a degr-ee of moral ambiguity which comes only after a lifetime in politics and cannot, as Rajiv Gandhi discovered, be developed ov-ernight. Then there is ruthlessness, without which no leader of men, let alone a prime minister, can function. In other words, in spite of his obvious qualifications, could Mr Singh be too nice a guy for the job?
