Tata Exports Launches Daks Menswear Range

Tata Exports has launched the Daks range of menswear in the country through its collaboration with Daks Simpson of UK, the 100-year old premium apparel manufacturing company.

The Daks range of products, which would be imported and marketed by Tata Exports, will be available at specific retail outlets in the Taj group of hotels all over the country.

With an increase in sales volumes, the product would be retailed through other departmental stores too, revealed senior company executives.

The first boutique has already been opened at the Taj, Mumbai, and two more would be opened at the Taj Mahal and Taj Palace in the capital, Taj Bengal in Calcutta and Taj Coromandel in Chennai.

 

The products, though imported with 52 per cent duty, would be competitively priced. For instance, shirts would be priced at Rs 1,00 onwards, while ties at Rs 1,600 onwards and jackets Rs 9,500 onwards. Tata Exports, which has already set up a manufacturing unit in Bangalore for readymade garments, is planning to enter into a licensing arrangement with Daks Simpson for the use of its technology and brand name.

"Our collaboration with Daks Simpson, will help us gain technological expertise from the company.

If Tata Exports meet the required quality standards for readymade garments, then we might enter into a licensing arrangement with Daks wherein we can exports garments under their brandname," said M L Jain, general manager, operations, Tata Exports.

Daks Simpson, with outlets in over 45 countries, has its factories located at Larkhall in Scotland. It is one of the largest manufacturers of garments in the United Kingdom.

The company's licensing business has come up in a big way and it has tie-ups with major companies in countries where it operates.
