Volumes Stay Low At Coffee Auction As Sellers Keep Off

With sellers refusing to buy at discounted levels, volumes stayed low at the weekly Indian Cofee Trade Association (Icta) auction here yesterday even as plantation PB sold at a marginal premium.

Robusta parchment AB was another grade that did well selling 108 odd tonee at marginally higher rates while all other varieties stayed barely steady.

Meanwhile, on the London and New York markets, both arabicas and robustas stayed steady through the week and trading activity was marked by roaster buying at the lows and origin price fixing at the dollar mark.

Volumes were low with everyone waiting for the final outcome of the retention plan.

 

Brazil has also cautioned other producing countries that it will no longer play the warehouse keeper for the world's suplus coffee and its decision , alongwith other developments in the frost season is expected to lead to volatile sessions ahead.

At yesterday's auction, a total of 443.003 tonne sold out an offer of 1144.6 tonne with 61.3 per cent being withdrawn from the sale.

In arabica parchment, PB sold 20.97 tonne at an average of Rs 93.02 / kg (Rs 91.14), A sold 67 tonne at an average of Rs 81.82 / kg (Rs 81.24), while B sold 22.9 tonne at an average of Rs. 70.94 (Rs 70.40), C sold 40.4 tonne at Rs 63.42 / kg (Rs 62.98), while BBB sold 10 tonne for Rs 42.58 / kg (Rs 39.66).

In arabica cherry, PB sold 2.6 tonne at Rs 58.48 / kg (Rs 57.78), AB sold 14.4 tonne at Rs 60.36 / kg (Rs 57.22), C sold 10.3 tonne at Rs. 42.66 / kg (Rs 44.04), while BBB sold 9.3 tonne for Rs 35.44 / kg (Rs 34.64).

Robusta parchment sold 19.9 tonne at Rs 42/ kg (Rs 42), AB sold 108.7 tonne at Rs 49.06 (Rs 49.00), C sold Rs. 4.6 tonne at Rs 39 / kg, and BBB sold 8.1 tonne for Rs 30.58/ kg (Rs 30.76).

In Robusta Cherry, PB sold 12.9 tonne at Rs 36.86 / kg (Rs 36.10), AB sold 28 tonne at Rs 38.42 / kg (Rs 38.25), C sold 10 tonne at Rs 34.88 / kg (Rs 34.06), BBB sold 50.4 tonne at Rs 29.36 / kg (Rs 31.86).
