Zee Nets Rs 333 Cr Profit After Tax

Zee Telefilms has posted a 160 per cent jump in its profit after tax to Rs 333 crore for the year ended March, 2000 against Rs 128 crore in the previous year. The unaudited results of Zee Telefilms include Zee Multimedia which was merged during the year.
The company's total income during the period stood at Rs 486.01 crore. And the total earnings before income, tax, depreciation and amortisation went up by 125 per cent to Rs 399 crore from Rs 177 crore. This includes an all- time high export earning of Rs 185 crore, a company release said.
During the year, the company launched four Alpha regional and two English channels which took the total number of its channels to 10

The company has also picked up 61 per cent stake in the Malayalam channel Asianet Communications, thereby making a foray into the southern market.
Zee Telefilms has also won the contract of marketing BCCI cricket series for four years as part of the its strategy to enter the sports telecast market.
It has also prepared for the launch of pay bouquet channels, initially through cable operators, popularly known as DTO and later migrate to DTH as and when it is permitted.
The company has launched zeenext.com, an aggregation of more than 46 channels and services of portals and succeeded in registering 140,000 users.
It is also establishing its own gateway to deliver better bandwidth and ISP services both through Telco and Cableco. The company has also launched the zeelearn.com as part of its Zee Education Convergence strategy centered at launching the Education TV channel, brick and mortal centres, electronic interface and net communities. It would gladden hearts of its shareholders and stakeholders that Zee.
