IIT festival in Kolkata from Feb 1

Bs Reporter Kolkata
Kshitij, the techno-management festival organised by the Indian Institute of Management, Kharagpur, will be underway between February 1 and 4, 2007.

This year more than 9,500 teams have registered for Kshitij and the total number of registrations have crossed the 12,000 mark. This year's festival has 35 events scheduled, divided between the technical and managerial segments.

This year's events would include workshops on cyber laws, ornithopters, six sigma and right to information.

Nobel laureates Harold Kroto and Lee Hartwell, explorer Eric Larsen, ad-man Alyque Padamsee and erstwhile chairman of ISRO, K Kasturirangan would be among the guest lecturers at the fest.

A major draw is expected to be a live demonstration of an ornithopter " an aircraft that flies by flapping its wings. This is to be followed by a technical session and a quiz through which 50 participants would be selected for a hands-on workshop.

While old favourites like Robotix are expected to be crowd pullers, new additions to the list of programmes include Synod India, a panel discussion by industry personnel. All events are to be held on campus during the days of the festival.
