India may face an AI talent shortfall of over 1 million by 2027: Report

India is poised to become a global AI talent hub, but a looming skill gap threatens to hinder its progress, with a new study by Bain & Company revealing that the country's AI sector could face a shortfall of over a million skilled professionals by 2027. The report highlighted the urgent need for India to reskill and upskill its workforce to meet the growing demand for AI expertise. "India has a unique opportunity to position itself as a global AI talent hub. However, by 2027, the job openings in AI are expected to be 1.52x of the talent availability. The challenge -- and opportunity -- lies in reskilling and upskilling a significant portion of the existing talent base on emerging technology tools and skillsets," said Saikat Banerjee, Partner and leader in Bain & Company's AI, Insights, and Solutions practice in India. AI-enabled handheld X-ray machines helping in early TB detection: Experts

AI-enabled hand-held X-ray machines are emerging as game changers in the early detection of Tuberculosis enabling the state to diagnose and notify 6.8 lakh patients -- the highest it has achieved in a calendar year, experts said. Of the 6.8 lakh cases notified in 2024, 4.29 lakh of these patients were notified from the public sector, and 2.5 lakh from private sector. These AI-enabled hand-held X-ray machines are helping in intensified screening under the ongoing pan India 100-Day Intensified Campaign to Eliminate TB aimed at accelerating efforts for the elimination of the disease from the country. According to the National TB Prevalence Survey in India (2019-2021) by ICMR in collaboration with the Union Health Ministry, X-rays are a critical screening tool for Tuberculosis, as close to 42.6 per cent cases of the disease would be missed had they not been screened through an X-ray. Ashwini Vaishnaw launches AI compute portal & dataset platform AIKosha

Marking a year of the IndiaAI Mission, Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday launched the IndiaAI compute portal and dataset platform AIKosha, among a slew of other initiatives under the IndiaAI Mission, aimed at improving access to AI and fostering innovation. The compute portal will provide access to compute more than 18,000 GPUs, cloud storage and other AI services to students, startups, researchers, academia, and government departments. The platform aims to streamline access to high-quality non-personal datasets for AI innovation. The Minister for Electronics and IT also launched AIKosha -- an all-in-one dataset platform providing resources, tools, and expert mentorship to help transform potential ideas into industry solutions. Datasets will be available for model builders and developers to work with and launch India-specific AI models.
