Luxury carmaker BMW expects its electric vehicle sales to surge over the next few years, accounting for around 30 per cent of the overall sales before 2030, driven by new products and enhanced adoption of green vehicles in the country, according to company's President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar. The German luxury carmaker's electric vehicle portfolio in India currently accounts for around 21 per cent of the overall sales. In an interaction with PTI, Brar said the company would like to have electric models in every vehicle segment it operates in the country. "We have done well in the electric segment, and we would like to build on that further. We are today, 21 per cent and I think at this rate, we may do 30 per cent even before 2030, which is mandated by the government," he noted. (Reuters) -India's Mahindra & Mahindra reported its first sales decline over three years in August as the Scorpio SUV maker said it moderated dispatches to dealers as it awaits a government decision on lower consumption tax.
Tata Motors on Monday said its total wholesales rose 2 per cent year-on-year to 73,178 units last month as compared with 71,693 units in August 2024. The company's total domestic dispatches, however, declined 2 per cent year on year to 68,482 units last month as against 70,006 units in August last year, the auto major said in a statement. Total passenger vehicle dispatches of the company in the domestic market declined 7 per cent to 41,001 units last month from 44,142 units in August 2024. Total domestic commercial vehicle sales stood at 27,481 units last month, an increase of 6 per cent as compared to 25,864 units in August last year. Shares of the company were trading 3.09 per cent up at Rs 689.45 apiece on BSE.

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported a 6 per cent year-on-year decline in total sales to 1,67,993 units in June. The country's largest carmaker had sold a total of 1,79,228 units in June 2024. Its total domestic passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers stood at 1,18,906 units last month compared to 1,37,160 units in the year-ago period, a dip of 13 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement. "The slowdown in passenger vehicle sales is largely due to a sharp decline in the smaller segment cars. Historically, passenger vehicle sales used to grow at 1.5 times the GDP growth. But now, even after 6.5 per cent GDP growth, the car market is nearly flat," MSI Senior Executive Officer Rahul Bharti said. Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday reported a 14 per cent year-on-year increase in its overall auto sales to 78,969 units in June. In the passenger vehicles segment, the company said its utility vehicles sales surged 18 per cent to 47,306 units in the domestic market last month against 40,022 units in the year-ago period, up 18 per cent. Domestic three-wheeler sales stood at 8,454 units, an increase of 37 per cent as compared with 6,180 units in June last year, M&M said in a statement. Total exports increased 1 per cent year-on-year to 2,634 units last month.
