Amit Shah to visit Bihar on Jayaprakash Narayan's 120th birth anniversary

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the birthplace of Jayaprakash Narayanan, popularly known as JP, in Bihar's Saran district on Tuesday to attend the 120th birth anniversary celebrations of the socialist icon. Accompanied by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shah will reach Sitab Diara via Varanasi. He will unveil a life-size statue of JP in Sitab Diara and address a public gathering. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the home minister's visit, officials said. This will be Shah's second visit to Bihar after the BJP was ousted from power in the state. Earlier, he visited Purnea and Kishanganj in the Seemanchal region on September 23.

CBI questions Tejashwi Yadav's close aide in land-for-jobs 'scam'

The CBI on Saturday questioned the private secretary of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in connection with alleged land-for-jobs scam in the Railways when his father Lalu Prasad was the minister, officials said. Sanjay Yadav was summoned to appear before the agency on Saturday, a day after the CBI chargesheeted Tejashwi's father Lalu Prasad, mother Rabri Devi and sister Misa Bharti in the case, the officials said. Sanjay, who had served as PS to Tejashwi during his first tenure as Deputy CM in 2015 as well, was summoned earlier also but he had challenged the CBI notices before the Delhi High Court, they said.

Bihar cabinet approves proposal for creating 7,800 new govt posts

The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved proposals for creating around 7,800 new posts in different departments of the state government, officials said. Among these are 7,595 additional posts of 'surveyors' and 'amins' in the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. Besides, 200 additional posts for two prisions in Arwal district, and Paliganj sub-division in Patna district, and 27 posts in the Art and Culture Department will be created, they said. The cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved the proposals at a meeting, they added. Last week, the state cabinet approved proposals for creating around 8,000 new posts in different government medical colleges and hospitals of the state. In his Independence Day speech, the chief minister had announced that his government would provide jobs to 20 lakhs youths, and half of them will get jobs in the government sector.

Police arrest four wanted Maoists arrested from Bihar's Aurangabad

Police have arrested four wanted Maoists from Aurangabad district, during a joint operation of security forces of Bihar and Jharkhand, officials said Friday. The arrested Naxals include Vinay Yadav, the regional commander' of the CPI (Maoist), who was carrying a reward of Rs 18 lakh on his head, they said. Police also recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash from their possession. Acting on a tip-off, security personnel had launched a search operation in some forested areas of the district, said Aurangabad SP Kantesh Kumar Mishra. These Maoists were involved in many crimes. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from their possession, he said. The Supreme Court on Monday said the Bihar Cricket Association cannot amend its own constitution and directed it to file an affidavit explaining the mechanism it is following for its elections scheduled on September 25. A bench of justices D Y Chandrachud and Hima Kohli asked the cricket body to clarify if it has changed the constitution of electoral college for the purpose of elections. "You can certainly hold the election, but you cannot amend the constitution. You file a short affidavit explaining what steps you are taking. We will record your undertaking in those terms that you will not give effect to amendment for elections," the bench observed. The top court said it would hear the matter on Friday. The apex court was hearing a plea seeking a stay on the upcoming election of the Bihar Cricket Association.
