Silver futures traded higher by 0.11 per cent at Rs 40,208 per kg Friday after speculators raised bets driven by a firm trend overseas. Silver for delivery in March traded higher by Rs 44, or 0.11 per cent, at Rs 40,208 per kg in a business turnover of 13,004 lots at the Multi Commodity Exchange. The white metal to be delivered in May also rose by Rs 73, or 0.18 per cent, to Rs 40,820 per kg in 5,194 lots. Analysts said widening of positions by traders, in sync with a firm trend overseas, influenced silver prices at futures trade here. In the international market, silver traded higher by 0.64 per cent at USD 15.90 an ounce in Singapore Friday.

Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling has been released from a federal custody after spending 12 years in prison for his role in masterminding one of most notorious corporate frauds in history, the Bureau of Prisons has said. Skilling, 65, was released on Thursday after serving 12 years in prison and six months in a halfway house after being convicted for his actions that led to one of the worst corporate meltdowns in history. He was convicted of 19 counts of conspiracy, securities fraud, insider trading and lying to auditors in connection with the collapse of the Houston-based energy giant. The company collapsed into bankruptcy in 2001 under the weight of years of illicit business deals and accounting tricks. Skilling was sentenced to 24 years in prison, but was able to walk free sooner due to a reduced sentence. Zinc prices rose by 0.42 per cent to Rs 192.75 per kg in futures trade Friday, tracking a firm trend at the physical market on the back of pick up in demand. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for February was trading higher by 80 paise, or 0.42 per cent, at Rs 192.75 per kg with a business turnover of 4,226 lots. Marketmen said widening of positions by participants following pick up in demand from consuming industries kept zinc prices higher.

Aluminium prices inched up by 0.19 per cent to Rs 134.85 per kg in futures trade on Friday as speculators created fresh positions amid rising spot demand and positive overseas trend. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in February edged up by 25 paise, or 0.19 per cent, to Rs 134.85 per kg in 3,618 lots. Analysts said positions built up by participants on the back of rising demand from consuming industries in the physical markets, coupled with positive global cues, led to the rise in aluminium prices.
Copper futures traded 0.45 per cent higher at Rs 457.40 per kg Friday amid pick up in domestic demand at the spot market. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in current month traded higher by Rs 2.05, or 0.45 per cent, to quote at Rs 457.40 per kg in a business turnover of 11,630 lots. Market analysts said increased demand from consuming industries mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade.
