West Bengal on Tuesday reported 736 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 20,07,249, the health department said in its bulletin. Thirty-two more people died of the infection including nine in Paschim Bardhaman, five in the city and four in North 24 Parganas which raised the toll to 20,884, the bulletin said At least 1,559 people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,70,356 . The discharge rate stood at 98.16 per cent and the fatality rate at 1.04 per cent. The positivity rate slipped from 2.59 per cent on Monday to 1.87 per cent, the bulletin said. Bengal currently has 16,009 active cases 855 less than the previous day. As many as 2,35,50,222 samples have been tested in the state, including 39,347 in the past 24 hours, the bulletin added.

Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded 158 new COVID-19 cases, 86 more than the previous day, with the tally mounting to 92,521, a health department official said. The death toll rose to 1,552 as four more people succumbed to the disease, he said. Of the fresh cases, 52 were reported from East Khasi Hills, 35 from West Garo Hills, 21 from West Jaintia Hills and 17 from Ri Bhoi. The remaining infections were registered in eight other districts. Meghalaya now has 1,208 active cases, Health Services Director Dr Aman War said. At least 285 people recuperated from the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 89,761, he said. The state has conducted over 13.39 lakh sample tests for COVID-19 so far. Over 23.05 lakh people have been inoculated in the state till Monday with 9,38,630 of them having received both doses of vaccines, War added.

Nagaland on Monday registered 71 new Covid-19 cases, 37 more than the previous day's count, taking the tally to 34,927, a health department official said. The death toll increased to 742 as three more people succumbed to coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, at least 73 patients recovered from the disease taking the total number of cured people to 32,041. Nagaland now has 691 active cases while 1,449 Covid-19 patients have migrated to other states, the official said. So far, 4,47,445 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the North-eastern state. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients is 91.73 per cent, the official said.
