Dairy company Heritage Foods said on Thursday it would reduce prices across its product range following the government's decision to cut goods and services tax (GST) rates on dairy products. The company said it would pass on the full benefit of the GST Council's rate rationalisation to consumers ahead of the festive season, effective September 22. Revenue of Amul's parent firm GCMMF rises 11% to Rs 65,911 crore in FY25

Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which sells dairy products under the 'Amul' brand, recorded an 11 per cent rise in its revenue to Rs 65,911 crore for the last fiscal, mainly driven by an increase in volumes across all categories, its MD Jayen Mehta said. GCMMF's turnover increased 8 per cent in 2023-24 to Rs 59,259 crore. "Our revenue during the 2024-25 financial year grew by 11 per cent to Rs 65,911 crore. We have clocked double digits across all product categories," Mehta told PTI. There has been decent growth in the last two quarters of the 2024-25 financial year, he added. "The rise in turnover was largely driven by volume growth. We did not increase prices much," Mehta said. Only in June last year, he said, the milk prices were raised because of a rise in input costs. In January this year, GCMMF reduced the prices of one-litre packs by Rs 1 per litre across India to encourage consumers to buy larger packs. The GCMMF Managing Director expects to ..

FSSAI asks states to increase food safety checks on dairy analogues

Food regulator FSSAI has asked states to step up surveillance on dairy analogues in March keeping in view the ongoing festive season. As per the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 'Dairy Analogues' are products where non-milk constituents replace milk components partially or entirely but resemble milk or milk products in appearance, texture, and functionality. Dairy Analogues are not considered milk, milk products, or composite milk products. When standardized milk products are compositionally altered by replacing major milk constituents like milk fat or milk protein with vegetable oil, fat, or protein, the resulting product is classified as an Analogue. "The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all States and Union Territories (UTs) to step up surveillance on Dairy Analogues throughout the month of March, keeping in view the ongoing festive season," a statement said on Tuesday. This measure aims to prev

Balanced diets, breed management can cut emissions in dairy sector: Report

Balanced diet, effective breed and manure management and precision dairy farming technologies could improve dairy productivity in India and reduce planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions from the sector, according to a new report. The report, titled "India's Dairy Future: Aligning Livelihoods, Growth, and Climate Solutions", says the doubling of the female bovine population in India -- from 122.7 million in 1972 to 246.7 million in 2019 -- has led to a corresponding doubling of greenhouse gas emissions from dairy animals. India's livestock sector is projected to account for 15.7 per cent of global enteric methane emissions by 2050, it said. According to the data published by the International Energy Agency earlier this year, India is the third largest emitter of methane. Studies suggest livestock are responsible for about 48 per cent of all methane emissions in the country, with cattle accounting for the majority of it. Despite the significant rise in female bovine population and .

Dairy sensitive sector; no plans to open up in any FTAs: Piyush Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said dairy is a sensitive sector in India as it involves livelihood issues of small farmers and there are no plans at all to give any kind of duty concessions under any Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in this area. He said that India has not given any duty concessions in the dairy sector even to Switzerland and Norway under the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) trade pact, which was signed in March. With Australia also, he said, that the sector was discussed but India clearly conveyed the sensitivities involved in this area. "Our average holding with the farmer is small. It is 2-3 acre farm with 3-4 live stocks whereas Australia's farm and their dairy farms are both very large and it would be near impossible for these large and small farms to compete with each other on a common footing. "We had discussed this issue even three years ago and on earlier occasions also and the dairy is such a sensitive sector that in any of our

Dairy industry to witness 13-14% revenue growth this year on strong demand

India's dairy industry is expected to witness healthy revenue growth of 13-14 per cent this financial year, as strong consumer demand continues along with improved supply of raw milk, a report said on Wednesday. While demand will be supported by rising consumption of value added products (VAP), ample milk supply will be driven by good monsoon prospects, Crisil Ratings said in a report. Rise in raw milk supply will also lead to higher working capital requirements for dairy players, the report noted. Though continued capital expenditure (capex) by organised dairies over the next two fiscals will result in debt levels inching up, the credit profiles will be stable supported by strong balance sheets. "Amidst modest growth of 2-4 per cent in realisation, the dairy industry's revenues are seen rising on healthy 9-11 per cent growth in volumes. VAP segment - 40 per cent contributor to the industry revenues - will be the primary driver, fueled by rising income levels and consumer transitio
