Mumbai on Thursday reported 96 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 11,63,086, while the death toll stood unchanged at 19,766, a civic official said. It was the fourth day in a row when the addition to the tally was below the 100-mark, with Wednesday seeing 67 cases and one death, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official pointed out. The recovery count increased by 135 in the last 24 hours to reach 11,42,691, leaving the city with an active caseload of 629. As per civic data, the recovery rate is 98.2 per cent, the overall growth rate of cases between April 27 and May 3 was 0.0073 per cent, while the caseload doubling time was 8,732 days. Four people died when a trailer crashed into their van near Ratangarh in Churu district of Rajasthan, police said on Thursday. The accident happened late Wednesday when the trailer collided head-on with a van moving in the opposite direction, they said. Three persons travelling in the van died on the spot. The fourth, who was seriously injured, succumbed during treatment at a hospital, the officials added. The deceased have been identified as Kaluram, Dilip Kumar, Nemichand and Prabhuram, police said, adding their bodies have been handed over to the relatives after a post-mortem examination. Efforts are on to nab the trailer driver, who fled the crime site after the accident, they added.

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday said she was deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the Ludhiana gas leak incident and expressed her condolences to the bereaved families. Eleven people, including three children, died allegedly after inhaling toxic gas in Ludhiana's thickly populated Giaspura area on Sunday, with authorities suspecting that dumping of some chemicals in the sewer led to the noxious emission. "I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of many people, including children and women, in the accident in Ludhiana. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to all those affected," Murmu said in a tweet in Hindi. The toll in the collapse of a two-storey building in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra's Thane district reached five on Sunday afternoon after the body of man was recovered from the debris even as search and rescue operations continued more than 24 hours after the incident. The building in Wardhaman Compound in Valpada in Mankoli, which housed godowns on the ground and first floors and four families on the top floor, collapsed into a heap of concrete at 1:45pm on Saturday. Six high school students were injured after gunfire erupted at a house party in southern Mississippi, according to a news report. The Biloxi Sun Herald reported early Sunday that the shootings happened overnight Saturday in Bay St. Louis, about 29 miles (46 kilometres) west of Biloxi. All six students suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to area hospitals. Two were in serious condition. Two of the victims are students at Bay High School in Bay St. Louis. Four of the students attend Hancock High School in Kiln, 13 miles (21 kilometres) northwest of Bay St. Louis. None of them had attended Bay High's prom, which was held earlier Saturday night. Two men were killed and a third person was wounded during a shooting in a Seattle park Saturday night, police said. Police responded to a report of a shooting at Cal Anderson Park around 10:30 p.m., the Seattle Police Department said in a statement. Officers found three men with gunshot wounds and provided first aid until Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived. One man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said. Two other victims were transported from the park in the Capitol Hill neighbourhood to Harborview Medical Centre, where the second man died, police said. Mumbai on Thursday reported 135 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally and the toll to 11,62,457 and 19,763, respectively, a civic official said. The addition to the tally was a drop from the 185 reported on Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official added. The lone death from the infection was of a 64-year-old man with comorbidities like diabetes and chronic kidney disease, the official informed. One passenger was killed and 22 were injured when a state-owned MSRTC bus overturned after hitting a road divider in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place at 3.30 pm near Karnala Bird Sanctuary, nearly 60 km from Mumbai, when the Shivshahi' bus operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was going from Panvel to Mahad, an official said. There were 38 passengers on the bus, he said. The driver of the bus lost control due to which the vehicle hit the road divider, resulting in one of its tyres getting burst, the official said. The bus overturned after the driver tried to swerve to the left, he said. After learning about the accident, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers, he said.
