A day after heavy rain lashed many parts of Delhi, the minimum temperature settled at 19.3 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal, the weather office said on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thundershowers and gusty winds during the day in the city. The national capital recorded 15 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ended at 8.30 am on Tuesday, the IMD said. Delhi recorded 14.8 mm of rain on Monday while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.6 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature settled at 19.3 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity stood at 87 per cent, the IMD said. On Monday, the maximum temperature was registered at 26.1 degrees Celsius, 13 degrees below average for this time of the year. The Delhi government on Monday announced the extension of its free sewer connection scheme, saying it will help reduce pollution in the Yamuna river. Water minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said the city government will provide free sewer connections in the unauthorised colonies of Sangam Vihar and Ghalibpur and Rs 7 crore has been earmarked for this purpose. He said the Arvind Kejriwal government has connected 527 new unauthorised colonies to the sewer network since coming to power eight years ago, expanding the sewer network by 2,371 kilometres. This new initiative will further strengthen the government's commitment to improve the living conditions of the people in Delhi, Bhardwaj said. The party will stage a sit-in outside Kejriwal's official residence 6, Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines from Monday, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said. Earlier in the week, the BJP had alleged that Kejriwal spent Rs 45 crore on renovation of his official house during 2020-22. Women and Child Development Minister Atishi has ordered immediate inspection of all government-run children's homes in Delhi and sought a detailed report on each by May 15, officials said on Saturday. The orders come in light of the minister's recent surprise visits to two children's homes in Lajpat Nagar where the facilities were found in a state of disrepair. Atishi has pulled up the officials concerned and sought a comprehensive report on each of the 25 children's homes run by the government by May 15 for review, they added. The Delhi government's vigilance department has served a notice to senior IAS officer Udit Prakash Rai for the construction of an official accommodation following the demolition of a 15th-century monument during his tenure as DJB's chief executive officer. The department has also issued show cause notices to five Delhi Jal Board (DJB) engineers for their alleged connivance in the demolition of the monument and construction of the official residence of the board's CEO. The engineers with administrative responsibilities in the Board have been asked to furnish their replies in two weeks. Delhi reported seven Covid-related fatalities for the second consecutive day on Thursday and registered 865 fresh coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 16.90 per cent, according to data shared by the city government's health department.
