Delhi on Saturday recorded 92 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.20 per cent, according to data issued by the city health department here. In a bid to curb vehicular pollution, the AAP government has decided that petrol and diesel will not be provided without PUC (pollution under control) certificate at petrol pumps in the national capital from October 25, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Saturday. He said that a notification in this regard will also be issued soon. A meeting of officials from environment, transport and traffic departments was convened on September 29 to discuss the implementation and modalities where it was decided to go ahead with the plan from October 25, the minister said. The city health department needs to expedite the process of issuing 'Divyang' certificates to the differently-abled, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said on Friday. Gautam chaired a review meeting of the State Advisory Board for Persons with Disability. The Board briefed him about the work done in the past one year. "The board has advised to prioritise recruitment of differently-abled persons by identifying four per cent posts in all departments for the disabled," the government said in a statement. Delhiites will soon get road tax concession if they buy new vehicles after scrapping old ones, with the Delhi government on Friday giving in-principle approval to the measure. The concession will range from eight per cent to 25 per cent of the tax amount. The government has decided to offer a maximum concession of 25 per cent in case of non-transport vehicles and 15 per cent in case of transport vehicles upon production of certificate of scrapping (certification of deposit) by new vehicle buyers. The policy will come into effect after final approval by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor and will promote scrapping and replacement of old polluting vehicles with new vehicles of upgraded fuel standards. The certificate of deposit' will be issued at the registered scrapping facilities of the government upon scrapping of old vehicles. Public Works Department (PWD) has identified around 10,000 spots across the national capital for installation of small 'cell sites' or small towers for roll out of 5G network in the city, official sources said on Friday. Government departments including the PWD will provide infrastructure related support to telecom companies in installation of these small towers, they said. The locations were identified in a PWD survey and the data has been submitted to a Delhi government enterprise Geospatial Delhi Limited (GSDL). Sources said that locations where 5G small cell sites can be set up include large sign boards and street light poles on arterial roads and high-mast lights. "We have included poles of street lights, high-mast lights and large sign boards situated at prominent and busy road stretches, as potential sites where small cell sites or small towers of 5G network can be set up to improve connectivity. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has again written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal pointing at the "unwarranted delay" in permitting the felling of trees and their translocation, saying this has stalled several critical development projects in the city, officials at the LG Office said on Friday. Saxena also raised the issue with Kejriwal during the weekly meeting on Friday evening, they said. Fifteen major projects involving the felling of trees and translocation of over 8,000 trees are stalled as the government is yet to give permission, they claimed. There was no immediate reaction from the government to the LG's letter. According to the officials, the LG has in his letter highlighted the wastage of public money and cost overruns due to such unwarranted delay and has stressed the need to fix accountability. "Opening of online module for filing of online application by the candidate under EWS/DG category for 5,881 vacant seats and CWSN 4,448 vacancies will be available from October 3. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced a 15-point Winter Action Plan to curb air pollution in the national capital. The chief minister said certain steps by the government, including the introduction of an electric vehicle policy in 2020 and 24-hour electricity supply, air-pollution level had declined in the last four years. Announcing the action plan, Kejriwal said the government would spray Pusa bio-decomposer on stubble on around 5,000 acres this year. The processing of unsettled claims of compensation for northeast Delhi riots victims has picked up pace with more than 550 applications being disposed within a month after the appointment of 40 loss assessors, officials at the lieutenant governor's office said on Thursday. In view of a large pendency of unsettled compensation claims, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had in August approved the appointment of 40 assessors and directed for disposal of all pending cases within three months. "Of 40 assessors whose appointment was approved, 36 are working and have disposed over 550 applications for compensation in just over a month. The reports of the accessors will be submitted soon before the High Court for release of the compensation amount," an official said. Usually, the monsoon starts retreating from northwest India by September 17 and withdraws from Delhi within a week. "The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from Punjab; some parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan and entire Delhi," India Meteorological Department said. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's primary weather station, logged 516.9 mm of rainfall this monsoon season, less than half of the precipitation received last year (1169.4 mm). Three more cases of monkeypox have been reported in the national capital, taking the infection tally in the city to 12, official sources said on Thursday. Five monkeypox patients are presently admitted at the LNJP Hospital, a source said. A 30-year-old Nigerian woman who had recently tested positive for the viral infection, was the ninth reported case here. "Twelve positive cases of monkeypox have been reported so far here. Five patients are presently admitted at LNJP Hospital. No suspected patient is admitted there at present," the source said. Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease having common symptoms such as fever, skin lesions, lymphadenopathy, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, chills or sweats, and sore throat and cough. More than 500 electricity theft cases were settled during a special Lok Adalat, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said here on Wednesday. The Lok Adalat was organised by Tata Power-DDL in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) in Sector 3, Rohini on September 25. "Tata Power-DDL was able to settle 525 electricity theft cases (i.e. issues related to meter tampering, direct theft, and disconnections) and pending matters listed in various courts/forums in the Lok Adalat.
