Delhi airport transshipped over 8,000 MT of Bangladeshi cargo in 1 year

Delhi airport operator DIAL on Thursday said it has transshipped more than 8,000 million tonnes of cargo from Bangladesh to various overseas destinations. "The transshipment facility for Bangladeshi cargo first began on February 26, 2023, paving the way for a faster and cost-effective route of shipping export cargo internationally. Since then, Delhi Airport has helped transship over 80 lakh kgs (8,000 MT) of readymade garments to European nations, including Spain, Netherlands and France," it said in a release. The European Union is the second-largest export destination for Bangladeshi apparel, followed by the UK and Canada. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said it has transshipped over 5.17 lakh MT of international cargo between April 2023 and January 2024. Delhi excise scam: Court extends Manish Sisodia's judicial custody

A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of jailed AAP leader Manish Sisodia in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi excise scam. Special Judge M K Nagpal extended the custody of Sisodia till March 22 after he was produced before the court on the expiry of his remand. The judge passed the order after the CBI counsel claimed that the investigation was at a crucial stage and if released on bail, Sisodia may hamper the ongoing probe or flee from justice. The judge also reserved the order on the application of the accused raising objections to the commencement of arguments on the framing of charges. The court is likely to pronounce the order on March 22. Security tightened in parts of Delhi after govt notifies CAA rules

Security has been beefed up in northeast Delhi, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia and other sensitive areas across the national capital following the notification of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) on Monday, officials said. Police personnel and paramilitary forces have also been deployed in some parts, with flag march being conducted in parts of northeast and southeast Delhi, they said. Delhi witnessed communal riots in 2020 over the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens). Delhi govt seeks L-G's nod on decision extending power subsidy to 2024-25

The Delhi government has sent the file of Cabinet decision to continue electricity subsidy scheme in 2024-25 for approval of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, government officials on Saturday said. The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday last approved the scheme for providing free electricity supply to consumers with monthly 200 units and 50 percent subsidy to those having 201-400 units consumption per month. Cong's poll body meets to finalise 1st list of candidates for LS elections

The top leadership of the Congress is attending a meeting in the national capital on Thursday to finalise the party's candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi and general secretary, organisation, K C Venugopal, as well as other senior leaders who are part of the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) were present at the meeting. Delhi to make tax admin faceless, Rs 41k cr GST, VAT collections estimated

The Delhi government will strengthen its Goods and Services Tax administration, making it faceless to boost revenue, Finance Minister Atishi said while presenting the annual budget 2024-25, envisaging Rs 76,000 crore outlay on Monday. The government will source Rs 41,000 crore through Goods and Services Tax (GST) and VAT, which will be 70 per cent of the total tax revenue of Rs 58,750 crore estimated in budget 2024-25. In fiscal 2023-24, the GST and value-added Tax (VAT) collections until January 2024 witnessed a growth of 13.96 per cent year-on-year to Rs 31,445 crore, Atishi said. "Now, the next step of the Kejriwal government is to make the IT infrastructure of GST state-of-the-art and the entire GST Tax Administration faceless," the finance minister said. The Delhi government is working on data analytics and automation software in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad. SC grants AAP time till June 15 to vacate offices at Rouse Avenue

The Supreme Court on Monday granted the Aam Aadmi Party time till June 15, 2024 to vacate its offices at Rouse Avenue here after noting that the land was allotted to the Delhi High Court for expanding judicial infrastructure. A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra asked AAP to approach Land And Development Office for allotment of land for its offices. "We would request the L&DO to process the application and communicate its decision within a period of four weeks," the bench said, adding AAP has no lawful right to continue on the land. Delhi Metro gets Rs 500 cr in Budget, 6 mn use service every day: Atishi

The Delhi government allocated Rs 500 crore for the Delhi Metro in its 2024-25 Budget tabled on Monday, with Finance Minister Atishi saying in the assembly that more than 60 lakh people commute on the service every day. In 2014, around 24 lakh passengers used the urban transporter daily, Atishi said. Presenting the 2024-25 Budget with a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore, Atishi said providing good public transportation facilities to every resident of Delhi is the responsibility of the government. Delhi govt's budget to be based on 'Ram Rajya' concept, says report

The Delhi government's budget for the 2024-25 financial year, which will be presented in the Assembly on Monday, is likely to be based on the concept of "Ram Rajya", sources said. Delhi Budget: Govt likely to allocate Rs 1,000 cr for unauthorised colonies

The Delhi government is expected to announce a fiscal boost of about Rs 1,000 crore for initiatives to uplift unauthorised colonies in its upcoming budget, sources on Saturday said. Delhi Finance Minister Atishi is slated to present the budget 2024-25 on March 4. In the upcoming budget of the state government, Delhiites can expect a big fiscal boost for unauthorised colonies, especially for strengthening their road infrastructure, a source told PTI. "For the fiscal year 2024-25, the Kejriwal government may announce a budgetary package of nearly Rs 1000 crore," the source said. Delhi has nearly 1,800 unauthorised colonies, accommodating 30 per cent of the city's population. Rain lashes in parts of Delhi, pollution levels improve with AQI at 114

Rain lashed parts of the national capital on Saturday, bringing down the pollution levels in the city. Delhi's maximum temperature settled at 25.2 degree Celsius, two notches below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department said. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degree Celsius, five notches above season average, the weather office said. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the "moderate category with a reading of 114, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 6 pm. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe". The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain for Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 26 and 15 degrees Celsius respectively on Sunday, it said.
