The Delhi Police on Wednesday held a carcade rehearsal from various points to Pragati Maidan ahead of the G20 summit scheduled in the national capital next month. The police had asked commuters to plan their journey accordingly as they said certain roads would remain affected till 11 am on Wednesday. "Due to carcade rehearsal and special traffic arrangements, some congestion is expected on Salimgarh Bypass, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Bhairon Marg, Mathura Road, C-Hexagon, Sardar Patel Marg and Gurgaon Road till 11 AM. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly," the traffic police wrote on microblogging site X. All private and government offices in the city will remain closed on September 8-10, while banks and commercial establishments, including markets, in the New Delhi district will be shut during these three days. An IndiGo plane from Varanasi made an emergency landing at the Delhi airport on Tuesday evening due to a hydraulic issue, according to a source. The source said there were more than 160 passengers onboard flight 6E-2232 that was en route to Delhi. There was a hydraulic issue with the aircraft and a full emergency was declared at the airport, the source in the know of the matter said. There was no immediate statement from IndiGo on the incident.

More than one lakh legal notices and 27,100 penalties have been issued for violations during the inspection of households and other premises for detecting the breeding of mosquito larvae in the last few months, according to data shared by civic authorities on Tuesday. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), in a statement, said construction sites are the most vulnerable spots with breeding of mosquitoes found at 21 per cent of the sites, followed by government offices, parks and nurseries, and educational institutions. The civic body asserted that it is working on a "war-footing" to check the spread of dengue, malaria and chikungunya. More than one lakh inspections are being done daily by malaria inspectors, DBC (domestic breeding checking) workers, field workers and officials of the public health department, the civic body said. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday directed the department secretary-cum-commissioner to stop seizing parked vehicles that have completed their stipulated life on the road and scrapping those, officials said. According to court orders, petrol vehicles that have completed 15 years since registration cannot ply on Delhi roads. Diesel vehicles older than 10 years are also not allowed on the roads. Owners of such vehicles are fined if these are found plying on the roads. The minister said in a note that it is "unfortunate" that the transport department is continuing its drive to seize old vehicles, even if found parked on the road, and sending those for scrapping. He cited "serious concerns" raised by Delhi High Court in the matter while hearing petitions of people whose vehicles were seized by enforcement teams of the transport department. National Food Security cardholders in Delhi -- representing some of the most marginalised segments of society -- will now have access to free sugar after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved on Monday a Cabinet decision in this regard. With less than three weeks to go before the G20 Summit here, civic officials on Sunday said they aim to build a thematic park to commemorate India's presidency of the bloc before the mega event. The G20-themed park will be developed on the premises of an existing one in M Block of Greater Kailash 2. "The park will have the logo of the G20 made in an artistic style, besides other artwork. It will also have stone sculptures of elephants and other animals to add to the charm," a top Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official said. Asked about the project's timeline, he said the aim is to "gift" the park to the people as soon as possible. Cooperative NCCF will commence retail sale of onion from the government buffer stock at a subsidised rate of Rs 25 per kg in the national capital from Monday to give relief to consumers from high prices of the kitchen staple, its top official said on Sunday. The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) is already selling tomatoes on behalf of the central government at a subsidised rate and it has now been mandated to retail buffer onion. The government has created a buffer stock of 3 lakh tonne of onion for 2023-24 fiscal. It has also decided to procure additional 2 lakh tonne onion for the buffer this year. "To begin with, we will start retailing buffer onions in Delhi. We will sell at a subsidised rate of Rs 25 per kg through our mobile vans and two retail outlets," NCCF Managing Director Anice Joseph Chandra told PTI. Delhi on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The department has predicted partly cloudy sky during the day. On Saturday, several parts of the city had witnessed rains. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 37 degrees Celsius. The humidity was recorded at 79 per cent at 8.30 am, it said. According to Central Pollution Control Board data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was "satisfactory" with a reading of 100 at 10 am. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ''good'', 51 and 100 ''satisfactory'', 101 and 200 ''moderate'', 201 and 300 ''poor'', 301 and 400 ''very poor'', and 401 and 500 ''severe''.
Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has approved the restructuring of the Delhi Administration Subordinate Services (DASS) cadre acceding to a decades-old demand of officers and employees, an employees' federation said on Saturday. The DASS cadre had not been restructured since its formation in 1967 despite several government orders, the Federation of Officers and Employees of DASS Cadre said in a statement. Saxena earlier directed to prepare a proposal in this direction. A three-member committee comprising retired IAS officers S B Shashank and Kulanand Joshi and serving IAS officer Y V V J Rajasekhar was constituted for the purpose and this committee identified 221 Group 'A' posts which could be included in 'DASS', the statement said. The Services Department submitted the proposal to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. Kumar submitted the proposal, along with his recommendation, to Saxena for his approval. Delhi on Saturday received a fresh spell of rainfall bringing some respite from the humid weather in the city and the minimum temperature settled at 25.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department. However, the maximum temperature settled at 35.6 degree Celsius, one notch above the season's average, it said. Rains caused waterlogging, affecting traffic movement in several parts of Delhi, including Firni Road in Najafgarh, Bahardurgarh Road, Patparganj, Vasant Kunj, Mundka and Badarpur. The city recorded 13 mm rainfall till 8.30 am, the IMD said. It has predicted generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle on Sunday. It said the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 36 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. The humidity oscillated between 96 per cent and 65 per cent. A fire broke out at a garment warehouse in south Delhi on Saturday morning, officials said. Information regarding the fire in the warehouse, located on the terrace of a building in South Extension Part-1 here, was received at 5.25 am, they added. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused around 9 am, the officials said, adding that no injuries were reported. The clothes stored in the warehouse got burnt in the blaze, the officials said. The building where the fire broke out comprises a basement, two floors and a terrace, they added.

Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Friday inaugurated a 23-acre sports complex at Dwarka and called it a "beautiful gift for the people of Delhi" from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Interacting with reporters, Saxena said Delhi which was "neglected for a long time", is now being decked up, not just for the G20 Summit, but for any such events in the future. The Dwarka Sports Complex in Sector-17 of the sub-city has been built by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at a cost of Rs 92 crore, a DDA official said.
