16 killed in Mozambique insurgency attack: local sources
Suspected Islamists in northern Mozambique killed at least 16 people on Tuesday in their deadliest attack since they launched an insurgency in the remote region in 2017, local sources told AFP on Friday. A Mitsubishi truck was ambushed as it was carrying passengers and goods on a dirt road in the coastal district of Macomia, they said. Confirmation of the fatalities only emerged on Friday.

Three drown, 4-year-old missing in France boat accident
Rescuers were searching Friday for a four-year-old girl missing after a boating accident in eastern France that killed three people, local officials said. The inflatable boat capsized on Thursday in the Rhine River that marks the border between France and Germany, just off the French town of Gerstheim and close to a hydro-electric power station and dam. French and German rescuers were employing divers and using helicopters in a bid to find the missing girl. Officials said the four people -- part of a group of seven Germans and Romanians who had come from Germany -- had taken to the water in defiance of clearly posted warnings against swimming and boating. A man, 29, and a girl aged 6 both died when the boat capsized, while a 22-year-old man from the same group also lost his life when he jumped in to rescue them. Surat blaze: Two fire officers held for 'negligence'
A week after 22 students were killed in a devastating fire at a coaching centre here, two officers of the Surat fire department, who had been suspended following the incident, were arrested on the charge of criminal negligence, police said Friday. The arrest was made by the Surat crime branch Thursday night. According to police, the two officers did not conduct fire safety audit of the four-storey Takshashila Arcade in Sarthana area in the city, where the blaze erupted. Deputy chief fire officer S K Acharya (54) and fire officer of East Zone Kirti Mod (40) were arrested Thursday night, a release by the crime branch said. Both the officers had been suspended by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) after the incident. 3 killed, 10 injured after SUV falls in gorge in J-K's Doda
Three people were killed and 10 others injured when an overloaded vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Friday. The accident took place on Thursday night when an SUV on its way to Bhalla in Doda district from Jammu skidded off the road and rolled down a 200-ft deep gorge at Khaleeni belt, they said. A rescue operation was launched and 13 people were rushed to the district hospital Doda where three were declared brought dead by the doctors. Three others were stated to be serious, the police said. The deceased have been identified as Badal, Ashwani Kumar and Chanku Ram, all residents of Kumari in Bhalla, they said. Officials said that the vehicle was carrying 13 passengers while it can only accommodate nine.
Nagpur: Fire breaks out in medical shop, cooling operation underway
A fire broke out on Thursday night in Sandesh Dawa Bazaar building of Nagpur due to a short circuit in a medical shop."Fire broke out at around 1 pm and engulfed 70 shops in the building. Desperate search after Budapest boat tragedy enters third day

Four people were killed and nine sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge here on Thursday night."The incident took place on Batote-Kishtwar national highway at about 11.30 pm.
