JNU has uploaded degrees of 8,482 students in national academic depository since 2014

Jawaharlal Nehru University said Tuesday it had uploaded a total of 8,482 diplomas, degrees and certificates of BA, MA, M.Phil and Ph.D students across all schools and special centres in the national academic depository (NAD). In pursuit of the vision of NAD, an initiative of the Government of India, to create an online store house of all academic awards, Jawaharlal Nehru University has earned the distinction of making remarkable strides in this digitalisation endeavour, the varsity said. This significant move is one among the series of other steps that the JNU administration has undertaken through the process of digitalisation to ensure transparency and efficiency in day-to-day administration. India obtains consular access to 117 of 129 students arrested in USA

The Indian Embassy and Consulates across the length of the United States have obtained consular access to 117 out of the 129 arrested students who were detained in connection with their enrollment in a fraudulent university in the US last week."As on date, our Embassy and Consulates have obtained consular access to the 117 of them, by proactively visiting 36 different detention sites through the length and breadth of the country," a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday noted.Efforts to get in touch with the remaining students are "continuing," the MEA further highlighted. Want to achieve 10,000 student and research visas in a year by 2020: French envoy

Underlining that France's doors are always open for Indian students, the French envoy here said his country's goal is to reach 10,000 student and research visas in a year by 2020. Over the past five years, Indian visa applications to France registered a 180 per cent increase, a statement said. During President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India in March 2018, the goal of reaching 10,000 Indian students leaving for France annually by 2020 was set. "In 2018, we registered 8,000 student and research visas for talented young Indians. Though twice as much as a couple of years back, this is still too little. Consular access to 117 of 126 Indian students detained in US obtained, legal help being given: MEA

India said Tuesday it has obtained consular access to 117 of the 129 Indian students detained in the US for enrolling in a fake university and legal assistance was being extended to them. The Indian government has continued to closely monitor and take proactive measures to deal with the detention of Indian students, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. According to US government statistics, 129 Indians were administratively arrested as on January 31 in connection with their enrolment at the "university". "As on date, our embassy and consulates have obtained consular access to 117 of them, by pro-actively visiting 36 different detention sites through the length and breadth of the country," the MEA said. Efforts for consular access to the remaining 12 are continuing, including through the 24/7 helpline set up by the Indian embassy and outreach to the community, it said. 180% jump in number of Indians seeking visa for France in last 5 years: French Embassy

Indian visa applications to France have seen an increase of over 180 per cent in the last five years, demonstrating that the country is growing in popularity here, a statement from the French Embassy said Tuesday. From 2017 to 2018, there was a rise of over 54.5 per cent in the number of visas issued to Indian students headed for France, the statement said. JNU digitalises 8482 degrees, diplomas, certificates

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) claims to have digitalised 8482 degrees, diplomas and certificates of BA, MA, M.Phil and PhD students across its Schools and Special Centres awarded since 2014 onwards. It has uploaded all these documents in the National Academic Depository (NAD).The process of digitalisation started in May 2018, according to JNU officials. NAD is an initiative of the central government to create an online storehouse of all academic awards.All uploaded degrees in the NAD depository have photographs and other relevant details of students inscribed on it. School headmaster booked for "misbehaving" with girl students

A 57-year-old headmaster of a government school in Khammam district, about 300 kms from here, has been booked under POCSO Act for "misbehaving" with girl students, police said Tuesday. A group of students accused B Shanker Reddy, headmaster of Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in that district of "misbehaving" with them, following which the District Educational Officer had Monday ordered a probe into the matter by a team comprising district officials and police. UP govt invokes ESMA, bans strike in state universities till June 2019

The Uttar Pradesh government Monday invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), banning any strike in the services of the state universities and affiliated colleges till June 2019. According to a notification issued in this regard, the government has prohibited strike till June 5, 2019 in all services of the state universities established under the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973, including constituent colleges, associated colleges and affiliated colleges. The ban has been issued in public interest, the notification said.

DU issues advisory against use of loudspeakers, public address systems on campus

The Delhi University has issued an advisory against the use of loudspeakers, public address systems "beyond permissible limits" on the varsity premises, saying it disturbs the teaching and research environment. An area not less than 100 metres around the premises of the Delhi University is a "silence zone" according to the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and the directions of the Delhi High Court and the National Green Tribunal, the advisory said. "Please note that the use of loudspeakers/public address system/beating of drums/sound amplifiers/sound-emitting fire crackers beyond permissible limits is not advisable as it disturbs the teaching and research environment of the varsity," the advisory read. The advisory comes in the wake of protests by student groups and DUTA on various issues over the last few months wherein loudspeakers, public address systems and drums were actively used. National Testing Agency launches mobile app for mock tests

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has launched a mobile application through which students can practice or take mock tests on their smartphones, the government said Monday. In reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for HRD Satyapal Singh said that in order to ensure no student is disadvantaged, the NTA has established a network of more than 4,000 Test Practice Centres (TPCs) to acquainten aspirants, especially those from rural areas, with computer-based tests (CBTs). Students across the country can register themselves online at the NTA Website or the NTA students app for visiting the TPCs, he said, adding all these services are provided to the students free-of-cost. More than one lakh students have registered at these TPCs and over one crore students have benefited from these app and web services, he added. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts entrance examinations for admission in higher educational institutions in the country.

20 J&K students take part in Army-sponsored capacity-building tour to Dehradun
