Mentor teachers have been instrumental in bringing an "education revolution" in schools run by the MCD in the national capital, Delhi Education Minister Atishi said on Saturday. Interacting with mentor teachers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi schools after their five-day exposure visit to some of the prominent institutes across India, she said they are being empowered to "transform" MCD schools. "After learning from prestigious education institutes from across the country, our mentor teachers have gained a unique enthusiasm and self-confidence. "With this enthusiasm, they will create a fantastic learning atmosphere in their classrooms and introduce innovative teaching and learning methods to their fellow teachers," Atishi said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), composite school complexes should be developed by timely upgrading Atal Vidyalayas, PM Shri Vidyalayas and Mukhyamantri Abhyuday Vidyalayas in the state. These schools should be operated based on the components of the NEP 2020 and children, besides being imparted formal education, should be engaged in sports activities as well, he said. Adityanath held a meeting with officials of the higher education, secondary education, and basic education departments to discuss the implementation of the National Education Policy, an official release said. He said workshops should be held in all districts to make teachers aware of the NEP. A state curriculum framework should be created, incorporating Indian knowledge, local practices and historical aspects, he said. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), under the Ayush Ministry, has issued directions to colleges for strict action against teachers who are physically absent but found present only on paper for the academic year 2023-24. In a letter to all colleges of Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha Systems of Medicine, the Commission has suggested action such as issuing warnings and imposing a monetary penalty, or not considering the teacher at all for the 2023-2024 session, depending on the first or second instance of offence and the experience of the teacher. "It is found that the menace of working only on paper is still continuing in some institutions. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said Odia along with other regional languages will now be taught in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools across the country. Pradhan said the CBSE has issued a circular in this regard on Friday and allowed regional languages as a medium of instruction in their schools. Stating that Hindi and English were the medium of education in CBSE schools so far, Pradhan said 22 regional languages, including Odia, will be taught from standard I to XII in CBSE schools. The students will now be able to learn in regional languages as per the provision of the New Education Policy. He said a student who reads in his or her mother tongue understands the subject better than Hindi or English. He said schools will make provisions for students who want to study in Odia or any other medium. He said the NCERT has also been asked to prepare textbooks accordingly.
