A joint venture of diversified group Vedanta and Taiwan-based Innolux can begin mass production of LCD displays in India in 18-24 months after receiving government approval, a senior official of Innolux said. Vedanta has formed a joint venture with Innolux as a technology partner to set up a display screen manufacturing unit at an estimated cost of USD 3-4 billion in the country. The JV has submitted the proposal with the Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) under the programme for semiconductor and display fab ecosystem for incentives. Innolux President and COO, James Yang, who has an experience of project rollout, told PTI in an interview that the JV can begin the first phase of mass production of LCD displays within 24 months. "Once we decide to go, in 18 to 24 months, we can finish the first phase and start the mass production. Phase 2 might take another 6 to 9 months," Yang said. Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd on Wednesday reported a 3.1 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 85.45 crore for the third quarter ended December 2023. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 88.19 crore in the October-December quarter a year ago, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (CGCEL) said in a regulatory filing. However, its revenue from operations rose 11.63 per cent to Rs 1,692.69 crore in the quarter under review. It was Rs 1,516.21 crore in the year-ago period. CGCEL's total expenses increased 12.22 per cent to Rs 1,596.90 crore in the December 2023 quarter. The total consolidated income surged 11.17 per cent to Rs 1,709.36 crore. In the December 2023 quarter, CGCEL's revenue from the electric consumer durables segment jumped 18.54 per cent to Rs 1,209.27 crore. The government is working on a new component-linked incentive scheme to encourage the production of electronics parts besides semiconductors, a top government official said on Tuesday. While speaking at the launch of made-in-India Milkyway tablets, Ministry of Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said that the government has been talking to industry for design and make in India products and the other focus has been increasing local value addition. "The private sector is stepping up. We hope in Meity to have a component linked incentive scheme in the coming months which will assist this movement towards making India both a product nation and increasingly a nation that produces more components," Krishnan said. State-owned BHEL on Tuesday posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 148.77 crore for the third quarter ended December 2023, impacted by higher expenses. It had posted a net profit of Rs 42.28 crore in the October-December period of the preceding 2022-23 financial year, the company said in an exchange filing. The company's total income rose to Rs 5,599.63 crore from Rs 5,353.94 crore a year ago. Its expenses increased to Rs 5,816.87 crore from Rs 5,320.84 crore in the third quarter of the last fiscal. BHEL is one of the largest engineering and manufacturing companies, engaged in design, engineering, construction, testing, commissioning and servicing a wide range of products and services.
The defence ministry signed a Rs 2,269-crore deal with state-run Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Tuesday for the procurement of 11 Shakti warfare systems, along with associated equipment. The electronic warfare system will be installed on-board the frontline warships of the Indian Navy, officials said. The Shakti systems are capable of accurately intercepting electronic emissions and implementing counter measures in a dense electromagnetic environment, they said. The company has announced a new business venture -- innovative self-laundry service, which will be for university students, said a statement from LG Electronics India, a wholly owned subsidiary of South Korean chaebol (conglomerate) LG Electronics Inc. The company said it is planning to open 200 such self-laundry service centres by the end of this year. The government has allocated Rs 15,500 crore for various electronics manufacturing programmes, including semiconductor mission and mobile and IT hardware PLI scheme for FY25. It has proposed Rs 4,203 crore incentives for assembly, test, and packaging plants that can benefit projects like the ones set up by Micron in Gujarat, the proposed plant by Foxconn and HCL joint venture, Tata Group etc. The proposed outlay covers projects for setting up compound semiconductor and sensor plants. The scheme for setting up a semiconductor fab or electronic chip plant in India has been allocated Rs 1,500 crore, Mohali-based semiconductor laboratory Rs 900 crore, design linked incentive scheme Rs 200 crore. In total, various schemes under semiconductor projects will get Rs 6,903 crore allocation. Besides this, the government has proposed enhancing allocation for mobile production linked incentive (PLI) scheme to Rs 6,125 crore in 2024-25 from Rs 4,489 crore in 2023-24. State-owned Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on Tuesday said it has bagged orders worth Rs 847.84 crore, including a major project from the finance ministry. The company bagged an order worth Rs 665.84 crore (plus taxes) from Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Ministry of Finance, to implement and manage IT infrastructure. "The scope of the project is to supply, install and maintain IT and networking infra, field IT support and centralised management and monitoring," BEL said in a filing to BSE, adding the maintenance support will be provided for five years which includes the implementation period. "This is one of the biggest civilian projects acquired on competitive basis by BEL during the current financial year," it said. BEL has also received orders worth Rs 182 crore towards miscellaneous spares and services. With this, BEL has received cumulative orders of Rs 28,494 crore in the current fiscal.
