'A Wednesday!' turns 10 on a Wednesday: Neeraj Pandey looks back
Director Neeraj Pandey has said everything that could go wrong, actually went wrong with his debut film "A Wednesday!" but they eventually overcame all the obstacles. "It was like Murphy's law in full display," he said about the film, which clocks 10 years Wednesday. The film revolved around a common man's anger at the system for failing to deal with terrorism. "We had issues on every side for this film. Whatever you could think could go wrong, went wrong. We are proud that we went through that journey and there is no pain," Pandey told PTI in an interview. The director said first hiccup came in the form of the producers. "After a point, the guys who were aligned with us gave up on us." New play to recollect Kalpana Chawla's space odyssey with a rural twist
After taking audience back to the Bombay of the black and white era with Atul Kumar's "Detective Nau-Do-Gyarah" last month, a new play is now all set to take viewers on a journey to the outer space. Organised by Aadyam, a theatre initiative by Aditya Birla Group, "Hello Farmaaish", will open on September 22 here at Kamani Auditorium. A heartening tale of a group of village misfits trying to track astronaut Kalpana Chawla's space mission, the theatrical production explores the protagonist's imagination and misadventures. Directed by Yuki Ellias and produced by Dur Se Brothers, the play is based on the concept of women-run community radio stations in rural India and unfolds simultaneously with Kalpana Chawla's 2003 voyage on space shuttle Colombia. It is a story of Minaz, a young, morbid girl and General Gita, her older irate teacher in a remote village, who find the reportage of Chawla's mission on Akashwani boring. Action drama film, 'Buffalo Boys' is all set to represent Singapore in the foreign-language Oscars category.Directed by Mike Wiluan, the film is based in the 19th century Java and is a perfect combination of rich Indonesian historical and cultural elements, reports Variety.Explaining the plot of the film, Singapore Film Commission director Joachim Ng said that Buff 'Buffalo Boys' explores the universally resonating themes of family ties and justice.
