H'wood actress Vanessa Marquez killed by cops

Hollywood actor Vanessa Marquez was shot and killed by police in Pasadena city.According to a TMZ report, police arrived after Marquez's concerned landlord called them up to check on her, as she was said to be suffering from seizures due to an eating disorder.Variety reported that after the paramedics were called in to take care of her health, the 'Fire and Ice' actor took out a gun and pointed at the police. It is after such an act that the police opened fire at her.Vanessa, who was rushed to the hospital, was declared brought dead. Bill Clinton remembers friend Aretha Franklin

Former US President Bill Clinton shared his thoughts during his friend Aretha Franklin's funeral service in Detroit.The former 72-year-old politician while paying a tribute to the 'Queen of Soul' said that it wasn't Franklin's music that brought everyone to the service, but it is because of the courage with which she led her life.He went on to say that her determination to overcome failures has made her more inspirational.He even appreciated the singer's hard work throughout her career, adding that this very ethic is "not very much in fashion".The Clinton family's relation with the singer started off from the early 1990s when Franklin performed at the President's inaugural ceremony.Franklin passed away on August 16 at her residence in Detroit at the age of 76. Palestine to send 'Ghost Hunting' to Oscars

Palestine has officially chosen documentary film 'Istiyad ashbah' (Ghost Hunting) for submission at the 91st Academy Awards.In the documentary directed by Raed Andoni, the Palestinian ex-inmates act out their nightmarish interrogation memories at the Moskobiya interrogation centre in Jerusalem, reporter The Hollywood Reporter.A replica of the interrogation rooms was built inside a hall where the inmates re-enacted and shared the humiliation they experienced during their detention.'Ghost hunting' is Palestine's 11th submission in the foreign-language category.The film has been co-produced by Palestine, France, Switzerland and Qatar.On August 30, Germany officially chose 'Never Look Away' to be submitted in the 'foreign language' category for the 91st Academy Awards, set to be held next year.Earlier in August, Turkey chose 'The Wild Pear Tree' and Ukraine chose their film 'Donbass' to be submitted under the category.

Competition Comm slaps over Rs 12 lakh fine on KFCC, two individuals

The Competition Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 12.58 lakh on Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and two individuals for unfair business ways with respect to screening of movies dubbed in Kannada. While directing the entities to "cease and desist" from anti-competitive practices, the watchdog has asked the grouping to come out with a 'Competition Compliance Manual'. The ruling has come on a complaint filed by film producer G Krishnamurthy pertaining to a tamil movie dubbed in Kannada. The regulator found that the KFCC and others "acted in concert and impeded entry and screening of dubbed movies and in particular the informant's film Sathyadev IPS - in the state of Karnataka" in violation of competition norms, as per an official release. "Such anti-competitive practice was found to have an appreciable adverse effect on competition and adversely affected the consumers, producers and exhibitors of dubbed cinema in the state of Karnataka...," it added.
